Having played with Mary (and bearing in mind that I am not 0.5% of the player Frisell is), I can hear the Maryness of the way she improvises with other people of this version of Shenandoah -- she has kind of an echo-and-distort thing she does that is just terrific.

(Find her style interesting, she plays a follow body electric, has a tone like the old time guitarists, like,say Jimmy Smith, but her music is s so different than that).

Bennie Maupin, man...Ron Carter and Freddie Waits are great, too, but I've honestly not heard of the violin players except Selwart, he's on some album or the other that I have. The strings added a wild, offbeat texture to that piece. Hampton Hawes is great discovery, I came to him rather late, but better late than never, right?
