yeah. The stories all involved and were geared towards preteens, which is when I read it. They're really well-written. I just remember the stories really leaving an impression on me. They're also not shy to lean towards the occult, in a way that I think a book for young readers wouldn't be nowadays.

one of the nice things about my mom running a bookstore as a kid was that we always had interesting books in the house.

The Snow Leopard with One Red Eye
Directed by
Nanni Nonni

A dancer finds a human torso which has been hacked up in the style of a killer who has been dead for many years. Her friend investigates the crime; and after decoding entries in a hidden journal, she discovers that the presumed victim, the dancer, has faked the entire crime... and is now desperate to make sure the truth stays hidden.

@melinda: If you're ever in Portland, I recommend visiting Powell's. It's become a tourist destination, but there's something about sitting in their cafe after perusing the endless, labyrinthian aisles of books that for me is a real Portland experience.

They have a pretty eclectic playlist - everything from loungecore through hip hop to indie and oldies really.

Of live DJing? Nerves, people looking at you, fear of fucking up ... fear of people hating what you're playing ... drunk people knocking into your stuff. But it's also a HUGE buzz. :-)
Avatar 5:53pm

takes a little chemical support to manage it, seems like. or it would me! :-)

I was on a British horror films forum years ago and we had a conversation about what our name would be if we were a Giallo director. My nickname has been Georgy since school ... so I added the girl in Italian ;-)

i won't pry farther about 'Georgy' ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Wouldn't it be hysterical if I did one of those DNA tests and found out that I actually was Italian? lol. My ancestry.com suggests otherwise, mind you. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The Georgy comes from my love of The Beatles and George being my favourite :-)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

For the longest time I was just "George" and then it got changed into the more affectionate Georgy :-) I definitely suit being a Georgy :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

From Pakistan to Italy? That's a trek!! Was that a military thing?
Avatar 6:38pm
Linda Lee:

we should all have names that suit us.
Georgy is better than George, i think.
Avatar 6:38pm
Linda Lee:

about pakistan, i don't know! could be trade, too.

It astonished me how utterly brave our ancestors were - that they undertook these extraordinary journeys across the world without knowing what was at the other end.

This is the funkiest Caravan EVER!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Caravan has to be one of the most covered lounge/exotica records, I think. It's just so fabulous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm

OMG, spacebrother! Do you collect Caravans?

yeah, when I first got into exotica/lounge thrift store records, I started noticing how it was such a standard. I sort of wanted to make a compilation of all of them. I am sure someone has and probably a better job than I could.

@ Rich - I think so. I may have a few. Haven't checked in awhile.

Avatar 6:47pm

i have a little second hand info on that trip, as it was in the early 20th century. it was uncomfortable ~ and long.
Avatar 6:47pm

people sickened and died on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm

Life must have been shit in London to make that journey.

My ancestor ended up dying in Salem - not for THAT reason luckily! - and one of his daughters came back to London and continued the family line in the UK. But ... I've probably got relatives in the US which is very exciting :-)
