Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, I chose it because it is built round the original Dies Irae theme, which also returns in a lot of funeral music and Romantic music depicting scary scenes.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
Jan Turkenburg:

that was on Saint Saens ;)

The various versions of this Berlioz symphony have some of the most bizarre record covers. I have the Charles Munch/Boston Symphony Orchestra version hanging on my wall. It disturbed me to no end as a youngster. My grandmother had it. Now I really like it.

Hi chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm
chresti:

Happy Holland-ween!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Rich in Washington:

Yes, GeorgyGirl! That's the one. Now that I am a grandfather, I have an obligation to weirdify my little dude. He just sort of wanders into my record cave with his eyes bugged out. Not necessarily scared, but you can see the gears turning...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
chresti:

I was Morticia for Halloween, I was 7 and had a full cast on my left leg, my momther made the dress
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - I wish my grandad had been as cool as you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm
Rich in Washington:

Your mom's awesome, chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm
Rich in Washington:

@DJ GeorgyGirl: the jury's still out on that one, as the grandfather/grandson relationship's a work-in-progress. My paternal grandpa was pretty weird, in a good way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
chresti:

My grandfather would bring blankets and little drums from his travels in the southwest and Mexico.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
Rich in Washington:

He loves records, though. He loves to flip through my new bin. His pa also has the vinyl addiction bug, so there's that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

My step-grandad wasn't weird as such, but he was a nice chap :-) Taught me how to make cheese and jam sandwiches and how to cultivate roses :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Rich in Washington:

My son's gotten into the sampling records and making music with it thing and he's quite good at it. I'm sending a stack of my KPM records for him to play with for a spell. He's never heard of library music and is intrigued. I guess I raised my kids right/wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

My father's father was the one who had the massive underground brick bomb shelter in his back garden where he kept his beer and wine ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - you do know that your son is going into a black hole with the library music, right? lol
  3:13pm
Martinibomb:

Fun show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@chresti - both your mum and your grandad sound fabulous :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
Rich in Washington:

My grandpa had a darkroom. He was a photographer by trade and also did photo reproduction work for government agencies (had a framed, signed thank you picture of J. Edgar Hoover and a bunch of agents - ULP!). His darkroom was a spooky affair in the back of their house at the end of a hallway. It was like stepping into a void.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah. Was a bit hesitant to turn him onto it at first, but admire his dedication. He's become quite the curious cratedigger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The Cratedigger's Young ;-)
Avatar 3:18pm
Linda Lee:

brilliant. :-)

Avatar 3:24pm

Avatar 3:27pm

Avatar 3:28pm
geezerette:

I love George Formby!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

They go together well! :-)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 3:29pm

Yes, If they had called it skeleton dance, I would have believed it too :-)
Avatar 3:30pm
Linda Lee:

Avatar 3:33pm
Linda Lee:

what was that gorgeous orchestral bit? not Thomas Dolby?
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, but the orchestra was arranged by ehm... wait...
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
Jan Turkenburg:

John Fiddy, but still "all compositions Thomas Dolby"
Avatar 3:35pm

Avatar 3:44pm
geezerette:

What they said, & thanks!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I knew this piece from when I was a little boy. On rainy sundays my father used to give me some informal music lessons, sometimes by listening to a record and telling what it was about and which instruments We were hearing. Night on the bald mountain was one of them. I saw the Fantasia much later
