Don't know if there are iTunes users on a Mac amongst you, but if so: don't upgrade to OS Catalina! iTunes will be replaced by app Music, and in Music you can only search on 5 fields (Song, Artist, Album, Composer, Playlist) and not any more on the other fields. So not on column Remarks! So here I am with my iTunes library of 40.000 songs and I can't properly search in it anymore. You can't install iTunes on Catalina and you can't go back to OS Mojave! I can't believe Apple removed the filter bar in app Music.

Daybreak and the Adventure Begins...:

Well 1) you can call me just Daybreak, I change the rest of the handle regularly. 2) You get to broadcast from and represent a mental and physical splinter of the correct reality that shall not be removed! 3) If we need to sing our damn troubles away we should all do it at Monty on Saturday, I’ll duet with my mediocre singing voice with anyone. In FMU singing terms, I only put my mouth where my hoof is willing to go (if that sounds creepy, I apologize, sometimes the FMU parlance comes out that way)

I used to visit my sister in the East Village in the mid sixties. I lived there myself in the late 80s, left just as the downward trajectory of gentrification swung to upward one. VERY evident to me that it was a multi decade very planned and nuanced take over of the real estate. The players through those decades? the cops, civil servants in the building departments, and most importantly the Mob.

Hi Sheila & all, with regards to this topic, I really recommend Ada Calhoun's book St. Mark's Is Dead from a few years ago to those who haven't read it. It covers a lot of these same issues of change and gentrification but ultimately takes a somewhat optimistic outlook on things, and is just a really wonderful read.

@Sheila: And I was hoping to hear you or Trouble DJ at the Ace, someday, too! I'd stayed there 5 years ago and had dug it, well before reading about it in Moss. But just for me, I can't square it anymore. I'll follow my fave DJs to those last indie haunts across the city if I have to! (and of course support the radio station where I hear them every week!)

The Future is Female.
If ideas about Democracy or a fairer society mean anything - it has to be
- given that I think there are more females than males - but most of the power of any kind rests with males.

It shouldn't be about male or female, it's about the best person for the job!

Yeah well for thousands of years it was assumed the best person for the job was a man, so "the Future is Female" is perhaps just acknowledging that women deserve equal consideration for said job for once.
