Did I say October? Oy, I am scrambled today.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:08pm

So (blushing radio) greetings to james and coel and djazz and steveo.

Hey coel, aside from my own wobbly head, I hit some damn button that put everything in shuffle mode, including my lunch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
doctorjazz:

Man. Micros Meet Guy (did I say I'm a big Microscopic Septet fan?). I'm in heaven (wish this was commercially available).
Not used to hearing Johnston go out so much...that's usually Dave Sewelson's role).

Hello Ridgewood company!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm

Provided there will be no Shmenge Brothers tribute, everything will go accordian to Hoyle. I'll sit in the back now. Hello, David, Ruth, the OAR syndicate, and Ridgewoodians.

My topography is shifting, coel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm
steveo:

Always glad to hear some dissonance.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
david w:

Dear Gail and super steveo, we are just getting started on both accounts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
steveo:

which is another kind push and pull because the roots of the word accordion mean "to agree, be in harmony"
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
david w:

Interesting how musical instrument names reflect more poetic than technical imagery. Pianoforte. Glockenspiel. Wonder what trombone means?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
coelacanth∅))):

my accordion is in accordance with my dissonance
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
steveo:

lol it's italian for "large trumpet"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm
coelacanth∅))):

right -was going to say it's derived from trumpet; but what are the roots of the word trumpet?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:50pm
david w:

That explains brass section politics (and humor).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm
coelacanth∅))):

so, maybe the term "slide trombone" is not redundant after all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
steveo:

seems like trumpet just means trumpet; there are definitely valved trombones;

this parkins & ostrowski is wonderful to mine ear
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
coelacanth∅))):

...and valveless trumpets. i guess trumpet is a very general term.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm
steveo:

i think so; one that's evolved to mean something more specific. say, are those sound waves emanating from your ∅?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
coelacanth∅))):

why, yes they are...though some might call them sunn waves.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
chresti:

I think trumpet refers to the shape, like trumpet flower?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
coelacanth∅))):

...whereas, because of its shape, the bugle was named after the salty corn snack made by general mills
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
steveo:

ah, yes, sunn; i see, i see
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
chresti:

haha coel, yer on a roll!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
Webhamster Henry:

Ahh, I was wondering if you'd get to Dr. PO. Her Roland MIDI accordion is sitting in her house.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
chresti:

Or bugle might be from bugle players' eyes bugging out whenever they play
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
david w:

Oliveros tech was always prime (an early and eternally honored master) and I wish we could have seen this project go further.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
coelacanth∅))):

haha chresti you might be onto something
no valves on that one; seems like it'd be challenging
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm
Webhamster Henry:

Just to keep talking about me and Dr PO, the new version of AUMI for iOS went live Nov.1st. see: aumiapp.com

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
david w:

Pittsburgh! Heartbeat of Drummer world! Hey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
coelacanth∅))):

Henry that looks very cool...although a bit beyond my comprehension, as i've never used a computer for creating, editing or recording sounds.
i think i might try to learn this though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm
steveo:

hey, i got lost and forgot about accordions for a minute there
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
david w:

Yes, steveo! I love a plan that comes together!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
ParUbi of Pittsburgh:

Neat! So you could just point AUMI at any kind of random movement and generate music from it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
Webhamster Henry:

AUMI is really about connecting people who have never physically been able to communicate and participate in groups where they can listen and be heard. The music is a happy side effect. Pauline explains it pretty well here: aumiapp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
steveo:

sounds amazing WH (no pun intended)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
coelacanth∅))):

you can take yourself from the accordions, but you can't take the accordions from yourself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
steveo:

my heart is an accordion and oxygenated blood is the music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
ParUbi of Pittsburgh:

so i installed AUMI and I can play notes and move a cursor thing with just the camera image, very cool!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
david w:

Amen to all the above.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm
coelacanth∅))):

in elementary school, when i sat there with the english book open before me -pretending to be following along with the lesson, i usually was singing the poems to myself, creating the music in my head, and pounding/grinding out the rhythm parts with my teeth.
i always imagined inventing some device that would transpose my fancy teethwork to drum and percussion sounds.

wow, that was great! thanks for the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm

Check out the way-out scales and sounds I put in that app! Including the Soldier String Quartet featuring Shelley Hirsch, Dr. Nerve, and of course, me.
I'm working up some tutorial videos now that the UI is pretty stable.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm

...(or is that a not-relative analogy? now i'm getting a different idea of what the aumi does...)
