He's written a good song or two, but generally he isn't the best performer of those songs. Alas, B"P"B likewise strikes me as a fake. That's probably because The Wire so heavily covered him, and The Wire is for me almost unbearable.

I have too much respect for this man. He was criticized and even sued by the record label he was on in the early 80's after he released Reactor/Hawks and Doves/ Trans/ Shocking Pinks. These were kinda considered bad records too by many at the time. There are real gems on all those albums, as there are a few on his current ones. Neil is a pure artist.

But man, I really love his Shocking Pinks phase, then there was the new-wavy one, Sample and Hold. I looked up the Wonderin' video not long ago, hadn't seen it since probably the 80s on MTV, and it is a trip.
