Good evening Jeff and TDK60 and everyone else in the green ghetto room

Neil WHO??
  10:07pm
Carmichael:

He he chresti, I saw what you did there.
  10:07pm
Chris Wardell:

Sup, Jeff? Brother Neil. Funny, I just got done watching the David Crosby documentary, and he talks about Neil quite a bit.

Hey Carmichael!

Dicky Betts a little on that lead
  10:14pm

Betts is one of my guitar idols. Blue Sky is amazing.

Heya there chresti.

RCU-Keith:

Evening, Jeff. Man, I’ve always wanted to check out Illinois Speed Press, but now I really have to hunt their albums down.
Avatar 10:17pm
Jeff Conklin:

Check the nearest dollar bin, for some reason nobody cares and its a very solid album...

sadiwn:

Evening Jeff, getting here a little late but this Strangefolk is a nice one.
  10:20pm
Chris Wardell:

Aww, Croz is ok. A little pompous and unnecessarily surly for sure. If I Could Only Remember My Name is a classic record, and Jerry is all over it.
Avatar 10:21pm
sadiwn:

also, I bookmarked that Whims tweet to check out but honestly I saw it and thought "oh, I bet I'll hear from that Sunday night."
  10:23pm
Neal:

San Francisco here. Just tuned in about 15 minutes ago. As the legal cannabis kicks. Wonderful music.
Avatar 10:24pm
Jeff Conklin:

I'm deeply familiar with Croz's work. I just dont want to hear his opinbion on anything. And his last two records are dogshit.

While hanging around Portland, I found a local 70s band called Sand. Tremendous find.

Evening all. Preach DJ JC.

I have that LP, Carmichael, its very good. Weird how its split across two LPs though
  10:27pm
Carmichael:

You’ve heard of Sand? Most excellent. I have been playing it on repeat for awhile now. I have to go back to the dude at the record shop, who seemed to know them.
  10:28pm
Beau&boris:

Hey
  10:28pm
Jeff Conklin:

Of course I know Sand who do you think you’re talking to?!
  10:30pm

Ha ha! New to me, thought it was a great find.

There's a great German band called Sand as well. And I have their records too ;)

They have that one album, Golem, right?
  10:40pm

This album first appeared in the UK on Transatlantic, which was the label on which Gryphon's first album, 1973, was issued.

Hi Jeff and ghetts. A blurb in the local paper mentioned that on December 15, there will be a celebration in honor of Robert Hunter up in Woodstock. www.colonywoodstock.com...

Mr. Pumpy:

I'm up later than usual for a Sunday. It's kind of hot in here in my place in Clifton, and I have a few windows open. I hear the leaves rustling from the wind, and this airy, folky setlist is the perfect compliment. Cheers, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Mr. Pumpy:

@Ken...thanks for the info. I have a place up in Delaware County, and I go through right past Woodstock on the ride to and fro. I'll look into that.

Love you have this intelligent & well-informed presentation of genre music I don't get exposed to elsewhere.
  11:13pm
Dean:

I'm uncomfortable admitting it, but I've always thought Neil Young was overrated. He's a kinda folkie, hippie Springsteen. He's written a good song or two, but generally he isn't the best performer of those songs.

Alas, B"P"B likewise strikes me as a fake. That's probably because The Wire so heavily covered him, and The Wire is for me almost unbearable.

I'm jealous that someone gets to make this music. I need a new band

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Neil is a Stylist - in voice & on gittar - which will always hit & miss with various individuals
...& has written more songs than alll but a small handful of people...
Always admired how he goes his own way after his muse
....if @ 74 & after more than a Half Century he isn't always the most relevant is it a shock?
  11:23pm
phat:

I should send you copies of one of my old band's records. you'd probably dig them.
  11:23pm
Dean:

If by "perfect" you mean "really, really good," then so be it. But if you mean transcendent, rarely to be bettered, then I can't reply meaningfully.
Avatar 11:23pm

...I'd reckon Owen here has absorbed Neil...

dave b.:

Some big negative feelings about Neil Young this evening. His records in the past 10 years are certainly not my favorites, but it's hard for me to call them S#1T. I have too much respect for this man. He was criticized and even sued by the record label he was on in the early 80's after he released Reactor/Hawks and Doves/ Trans/ Shocking Pinks. These were kinda considered bad records too by many at the time. There are real gems on all those albums, as there are a few on his current ones.
Neil is a pure artist.
Avatar 11:52pm
Jeff Conklin:

He's indeed an artist. But far from pure. And shilling for Amazon is beyond shitty. Sorry, its how I feel.
  11:53pm
phat:

mandy, agreed
  11:54pm
Dean:

Mine contribute to the negative feelings. They are directed less at his lifetime of work--good, bad, influential, for some but not for others--than at the notion that he "is a pure artist," which means nothing. That aside, I don't find much to enjoy in his work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
mariano:

I'm not the biggest Neil Young fan by any stretch, though do I have a lot of respect for him. But man, I really love his Shocking Pinks phase, then there was the new-wavy one, Sample and Hold. I looked up the Wonderin' video not long ago, hadn't seen it since probably the 80s on MTV, and it is a trip.
  11:55pm

This sounds like the sun is coming up. The sun must be coming up over the Atlantic right now.

Wasn't Neil's song "This Note's For You" about not selling out? I am confused now.
