BH a good diner has not great but decent food. some diners don't even have that!
...nd the diners in my area are more expensive than restaurants that aren't called diners, and they generally suck.
i always thought a "diner" was by definition inexpensive, but not so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am
coelacanth∅))):

rw yeah that's kinda my point! i've recently met others too who do the same thing -just to fuck with the statistics and therefore the expectations come election time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am
coelacanth∅))):

haha -not that i'm pro-democrat either! they usually all suck, unfortunately -whatever they call themselves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am
Marcel M:

The rare diner does have truly good food. But usually famous and packed. Like Tops in NJ
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am
Marcel M:

But to me a decent diner is great. If they can fry eggs okay and the hash browns are fine i'm in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am
Marcel M:

But I grew up in NJ. So thats how it goes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am
coelacanth∅))):

when i first entered "the work force" i went to the cranford diner regularly. 99¢ 2 eggs, home fries, toast. they got us on the $2. coffees but still! food was good. then the prices went up; quality went down. prices went up some more...
  1:19am
rw:

I drove past my favorite diner around here recently and it had been torn down. Old school with the tufted vinyl booths, oversized portions, waitresses that call you "hon", crawling with old people. They turned it into a McDonalds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am
coelacanth∅))):

i have a whole list (in my head) of nj diners that were really good, then not.
kenilworth; echo diner on 22; rustic mill...there was one in roselle park that seemed to be remaining good. last time there is over 18 years ago. "midas touch"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am

there was one in westfield nj that was an old railroad car, with all the chrome adornments and such that happened i guess in the 50s? 40s? and some german guy with too much money bought it and removed the entire thing, sent it to germany.
prick.

i worked in summit in the mid-late 90s.
  1:27am
BH:

in my area, there was a trolley car sort of restaurant that was concentrating on sandwiches and soup.. and eventually that place moved and last I recall it's operating out of a library. The one time I went to a Waffle House, I didn't budget great and barely escaped with money in my wallet

BH i think waffles have become fashionable! it's astounding how much they charge for a cool-shaped slab of empty calories w/diabetes syrup and butter, when a regular round, flat slab of empty calories (w/same) is like a buck or 2.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34am
coelacanth∅))):

wow that place is beautiful!
Avatar 1:36am
slugluv1313:

@ rw -- that sucks! as if McDonalds was not already the epitome of PURE EVIL!!!
and yeah, diners are *supposed* to be reasonably priced -- as coelacanthø))) noted, some diners have crappy food, are higher priced, and are stingier with their portions than "regular" restaurants (and yes! i remember the Echo Diner on Route 22 too! is it still there?)
near FMU, i found Rumi, the Turkish restaurant -- love their lentil soup (usually with this amazing bread, instead of the usual pita) -- lotsa veg/vegan options, huge portions (for me at least) and decent prices -- but, they close at 10pm
and yeah, now i'm hungry too!

I'm 10,000 miles away and I want diner food. Also it's nearly dinner time. Most likely will end up with Vietnamese, but could so go a pastrami bagel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am
coelacanth∅))):

yes,Ken seriously! when i lived in nj many of the diners were owned by greeks and so the greece-influenced dishes were really good -like the tomato-feta omelette. even the spanikopita was decent; and it's not easy to find good spanikopita.
  1:39am
BH:

all of the Waffle Houses in my vicinity are at Interstate exits, so it's a little out of the way.

slugluv i haven't been down that way in a few years but i think it was still there 5-10 years ago. driving on the hellish rt.22 and didn't notice.

Marcel, you've only been to Denny's ONCE? Are there no Denny's in NJ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45am

never ate at a denny's but had friends who boycotted them because of several bigotry-motivated unpleasant encounters at a few of them. this was the late 90s. i don't know if denny's is up here where i live.
Avatar 1:46am
slugluv1313:

@ Marcel -- same here, and agreed -- only time i had been to a Denny's was while traveling with the Sideshow many years ago -- in Maryland, i think -- i was not vegan yet, but still really slim pickings for veg food -- even their avocados tasted like cardboard

Denny's probably exists for the people travelling who don't know of better options in the area.

i mean, when i was a little kid, we had a "block" party of sorts (the road i grew up on was a dead end!) and even if everyone did not agree on everything, everyone kinda looked out for each other -- this changed drastically in later years, my parents really grew to hate the snooty people moving in -- nosy, busy-body types, but could not be bothered if a neighbor was in trouble, did "not want to get involved" (if that makes any sense!)
have a great night!

My what-was-music-comments page on my ipad keeps flaming out. I’ll have to leave early (but keep listening). Cheers, everybody.

It's good to hear these newer/current euro music tracks. I have an affinity for their takes. I'm really liking my LA scene rn, some crushing downtown electro-punk-hiphop at my warehouse space this summer/fall.

Later Marcel! Know what shirt I'm wearing tmrw!!
