Today a "Group Mixtape" -- Featuring requests from the Exotica - Cool, Strange and Unusual Music Group on Facebook.
  3:31pm
Martinibomb:

The Request Line is open for the next 3hrs! I'll do my best to play anything that shows up in the chat room. In celebration of Abstract Sound Artist, Daniel Menche's birthday today I'll be playing a selection from his latest release toward the end of my show.

Exotica requests? I request a mai-tai, pleeze!
  4:09pm
Martinibomb:

I could go for a Mai-Tai -- The Alibi Tiki bar is only 2blocks from my house ... maybe I have time to get there and back if I call it in
Avatar 4:12pm
Mr Fab:

am looking at pics of the Alibi - really nice! So it's escaped gentrification so far?
Avatar 4:13pm
Ursula1000:

Herb played here in NY a few days ago and I totally missed it--grrr
  4:15pm
Martinibomb:

Whaaa Oh my gawd I would so love to see him live. @Fab yeah they fixed the Alibi up it's a little nicer than it's been in quite some time. Karaoke makes it super popular
  4:15pm
Martinibomb:

@Fab the drinks SUCK at the Alibi tho :-( Hale Pale here in town is like SUPER GOOD
Avatar 4:18pm
Mr Fab:

a tiki bar with bad drinks? Oh, that's just wrong. There's some good spots, but I tend to make my own cocktails, so hard to find anyone who knows what they're doing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
ParUbi:

Of yeah, this is the stuff.
  4:19pm
Martinibomb:

@Fab well mediocre.. passable -- Hale Pale blows em away
  4:19pm

@ParUbi ever heard of Gruff Rhys before I wasn't familiar with him.. pretty good tho this track is great

"Gruff is the Super Furry Animals dude yeah?" At first, I thought you were referring to McGruff, the crime dog. After all, he is a super furry animal.

  4:48pm
JR Claiborn:

The track "The Love God" on V1 Wakka Chikka is the only reason I sent in for Vol. 2. Excellent production work. Had a home studio ever since.
Avatar 4:48pm
Mr Fab:

Huh, i never knew anyone who liked the Cocteau Twins. Me and my friends used to make fun of them for being so silly and affected. Oh so precious. (Tho we loved Kate Bush, who was at LEAST as fruity, if not more so, heh heh.)
  4:48pm

oh shit I did the cover hah kinda forgot

Just watched a fairly interesting episode of a making of series about Ghostbusters. It was pretty good. It's called Movies That Made Us and it's on Netflix (US).

I watched that too Rich, was good!
  4:57pm

Rich, I watched the Die Hard episode on Netflix.

Gaaa I love Eden Ahbez
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
Rich in Washington:

a bit hard to get into at first due to its rapid pace and constant zingers, etc, but every episode was pretty interesting, even if the movies weren't ones I was particularly gaga over.
  4:58pm
JR Claiborn:

Caught that too. Good program. Netflix and Disney+ have my vote.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm

This guy sounds a little like Jon Lovitz to me. Does that ruin it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm

Eden Ahbez was the Ur hippie.
  4:59pm

Eden Abhez is great. And there's a new effort coming out soon by the Swedish group..

Rich in Washington:

I remember hearing someone's phone interview with him (or something) several years ago and it was fascinating. What an original.
Avatar 5:01pm
Mr Fab:

In some ways tho, Eden Ahbez and the other Nature Boys were anti-hippie: they were all about health and discipline, so no drugs, booze, loose living, etc.
  5:01pm
Domenic:

So the Exotica - Cool, Strange and Unusual Music Group on Facebook is there to cheer on all "passion projects" ! And Sheena is definitely one! Gotta go, and keep growing! Feel free to always reach out.

We can always just go with Maestro Cugat too!
Avatar 5:40pm
Mr Fab:

I have "Gesundheit" on a comp called The Lavender Jungle, but it's credited to 'Luchese Liebhaber' for some reason. Maybe Cugat was too big a name for a grey-label release, so they released it under a phony name hoping to sneak it thru?

It's going to work well with this Daniel Menche track I want to play they are both about 20min --- why not play some longer stuff for the final hour?

Daniel Menche works! Such a nice guy, too!

Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I just played a peanut butter sample on mine.
Avatar 6:00pm
Mr Fab:

i also have Carlos' "Sonic Seasonings" LP on vinyl - interesting that it's not only pre-Eno ambient music, but I noticed that it actually uses the word 'ambience' in it's liner notes. Wonder if this was all on influence on Brian E., or just coincidence?
  6:00pm
Martinibomb:

For reeeeeeelz Kenzo??? for really reals??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
ParUbi:

You could also play Rush's "Temples of Syrinx," from 2112, but that might destroy WFMU with opposite energy
Avatar 6:04pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Martinibomb Yes, a very silly peanut butter sample, part of a weird debate between a mother and son about the arguable superiority of organic food. wfmu.org... , come check it out later! One of my top-favorite episodes ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
ParUbi:

Oh shit, your show's on too, Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm

Easy solution: play both at the same time

Ha, martinbomb has done that very thing. And played ken & Andy at the same time, too. Can we have all 3?

Are the "nature boys" all related? Was that one guy's (Jon Lovitz sounding) "nature boy" the first, or was that in reference to a prior nature boy?
Avatar 6:51pm
Mr Fab:

The Nature Boys were a loosely-affiliated counter-culture group, before the term 'counter-culture' was used. Kerouac mentions them (in On The Road, i think?) They started in Germany (hence, all the DISCIPLINE!)
