Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from December 20, 2019 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Damage?..I gutcha damage. Friday was going to be good, with time to catch the outstanding programs here, but I left to help transport something in my little truck, and I backed into a pole. My tailgate, which was down at the time is SEVERELY munted, as the New Zealanders say, and uncloseable. The least valuable stuff I was hauling was damaged, the more important freshly-assembled thing was not. But the tailgate, good lord...it and my state of mind for the day, and maybe my Christmas....munted and moany. The tailgate outside is frightful, but the music is so delightful, I'm sure, and I'm ready.

Picked up Paul Young's The Secret of Association on LP yesterday for a buck. Bought it for the hit written by Daryl Hall, but it also includes an early Sutherland Bros. tune, "I Was in Chains." The LP label attributes the song to I. Southerland [sic], but in fact it was written by Gavin.

Lesson: don't help nobody, never!
No, lesson is pay bleedin' attention. When an indecisive U-Haul was blocking the street, I reversed to back no more than a car-length around corner into street I'd just come off of. No traffic coming, but blind spot carelessness.
Harm beyond bungee-aid. Some prying and hammering might get the gate up to full vertical and then maybe it can be roped to stay up with injury. But it's destined for junkyard, I'm afraid, with near-perfect curved indent of telephone pole in top lip, and otherwise askew and buckled enough to force a decision to....put it down. Came back around the block shortly afterward to examine pole briefly; even without much velocity it was a good hit. Not bent or shattered at impact spot, but was that some opposite-side force damage to the wood I saw....?
A bendy little Santa was uncharacteristically riding on the cap's window/hatch handle in recent days, but he'd been removed today at loading time. He coulda been killed!

Saw Sparks once, in '76. The piano bench survived until the last moment when it met a brutal end at Ron's hands in the aisle of Boston Symphony Hall.

I started a new job a few weeks ago, at a fairly large company. Just made a cup of tea in the kitchen area, and there was a guy making coffee, wearing an FMU shirt. I hadn’t met this person (that I recall). After a pretty sizable pause—he had earbuds in —I said “I like your shirt.” He said, “Thanks; one of my favorite shows is on now” and we went in our separate directions.

Per AllMusic, "The odd tune here is 'Let's Mop It,' a somewhat forced bit of hipness based on the famous lick from Dizzy Gillespie's 'Salt Peanuts.'" https://www.allmusic.com/album/1944-1949-mw0000221623
