Not looking.
I find nothing aesthetically pleasing about the appearance of a cannoli.
It must be consumed to understand its meaning.
To do otherwise is to deny its sole purpose and an affront to good taste.

yeah but gf'll kill me if its not there when she wakes up.

But the cannoli is.
It exists simply as a culinary creation.
A pastry.
Nothing more
Nothing less.

On occasion there would follow a white box from Monteleone's Bakery. Within were held the sweetest edible delights. Nothing since has ever compared.

in upper sunset park, we have saveral chinese and mexican bakeries and one lone holdout italian bakery on the same block.

As well it’s cousin the lobster tail is stuffed with...Canolli cream
When you make canolli cream at home the proper ricotta is Ricotta impastata with sugar, cinnamon oil, heavy cream and vanilla. We never made it with rum flavor but 30% of bakers do. So it’s ok if you do
As far as my favorite Pastry I would go with a specialty not known to many non Italians
The booby cake aka St.agathas.

We made several versions for different applications, especially around Easter. The flavor comes from candied dried fruit skins. Like those tiny pieces in the Sfiogatelle.
