A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

i need devo. i'll have to listen to some devo after the show
  7:53pm
Martinibomb:

There will never be a better *band* than DEVO in my humble opinion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm
coelacanth∅:

that's a big statement! but i do think that, as well-known as they are, they're still not recognised for the true measure of their greatness
  7:56pm
Domenic:

So this is what The Residents sound like. Went looking Bumpity stuff on the net.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm
Rich in Washington:

Not really a good example of what they sound like. More like mid-late era Residents.
  7:57pm
Martinibomb:

@Dom Bumpity is the all time best kid's show. He's a bump in the road. total fave from my child hood. I really miss local programming like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm

-and it was a pretty faithful reproduction of the original by Hank Williams!
  7:59pm
Martinibomb:

@coelacanth∅: agree. Was fun for me a few years ago.. a good friend of mine works for them. And played bass on that last tour I think in 2014? After bob2 died

My friend got me backstage etc.. was really fun hanging with them

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm

^ I'm not holding my breath but I keep hearing they are going to do one last tour
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm

The only DEVO concert i've attended was Burger Boogaloo 2018, which was RUMORED to be their"final performance." We'll see…

That looked like a fuuuuun concert wish I could have been there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm
coelacanth∅:

well i maybe shouldn't say it right now but i completely lost interest in devo when oh no it's devo came out.
...saw them 3 times though, between 1979 & 1981
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Martinibomb: it was a thrill indeed. Technically,i did see them play in SF Civic Center 10ish years ago, but it was an auto promo stunt, so i didn't count it. Even tho that was totally DEVO of them.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
coelacanth∅:

i'd expect devo's shows to all be good, throughout their history, regardless of what their studio output/ latest gimmick is.
...i'm also open to the possibility that their studio output got better again when i wasn't looking.
- it happened with the cure...
Avatar 8:20pm
Mod Mokka Matti:

Still here
Avatar 8:22pm

You can safely skip Devo after "Oh No," but got unexpectedly good in the late '90s with their "Wipeouters", and then their "Something For everyone"LP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
coelacanth∅:

those i will check out then, Mr.Fab! Thanks

awwwww, i was just a lonely adolescent weirdo in Kelso Washington when "Oh No!" came out and it was good enough for me.
Avatar 8:32pm
Mr Fab:

"Oh No" has a few good ones. There was def a drop-off in quality compared to the previous albums, but "Time Out For Fun" and the Residents-ish "Speed racer" were good 'uns, I'll give you that.
  8:33pm
Martinibomb:

@Fab Disco Dancer worst DEVO song in my opinion

Mr Fab:

re their sorta comeback: There aren't any real classics on the order of say, "Mongoloid" or "Beautiful World on the "Wipeouters"and "Something For everyone" albums. But they are quite consistent, and I found myself returning to them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
coelacanth∅:

there were 3 of us who liked devo from the moment "satisfaction" made the scene, but the rest of the crew wouldn't listen even with our playing the first 2 albums (& the be stiff ep) every weekend -until either freedom of choice or new traditionalists came out; so there you go. it just has to run it's course.
