JakeGould:

@BH: I grew up in NYC during the era when that U2 song was played all of the time on New Years Day and honestly, U2 was tolerable at that point. But nowadays… Errr.…
  12:27am
JakeGould:

Gotta be honest, I smile when I think about the year 2020. What a cool and perfectly symmetrical name. When was that last the case? 1919?
Avatar 12:30am

@jake - I like the year too. similarly, 2002 happened!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Rush envisioned 2112 at one point. That should be a good year.
  12:32am
JakeGould:

Oh! That is right. And 1991 too… But it’s like a mirror thing when it’s opposite. Like good/evil. 2020 is like doubling up on fun. And Mad Dog 20/20 is releasing a “special” bum wine on 02/02/2020. No joke!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am
Mr. Pumpy:

Does anyone else think the last minute thirty of that Church of Misery song is a direct homage to SLEEEP'S Inside the Sun? It has almost the exact riff and vocal cadence.

Dopesteps/Dopestoop: I live in deep Brooklyn and on nights like tonight you might see one or two people nodding off on the steps/stoop. Fun times!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am

I was going to get a Dopesectional...but I'm just not that social.
  12:41am
choggie:

Any of y'all NY area folks ever see The Atomic Bitchwax live??
  12:41am
JakeGould:

There was a dope-lady in a subway station this week with a small chihuahua. She was standing over the dog — that was sitting in a small pillow — and nodding off right over it. And the derpy dog was being chill but looking up every now and then as if two think, “Here she goes again!” So sad, weird and cute.
  12:41am
choggie:

They came to Houston about 5 years ago and I missed em
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am

mariano:

A dopebidet can add that extra touch of class to any bathroom.
  12:44am
JakeGould:

@MrPumpy: Yup. The thing is I lived in a fairly well-to-do part of Brooklyn 10 years ago, and you would see these richie-rich kids nod off and they would be scary… Because they were rich brat children of lawyers and such. In the neighborhood I live in now, the nodders are not violent and you can often talk to them and such.

Nothing is worse than a trust fund crusty in an NYC park like Union Square flipping out. Really scary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am
Mr. Pumpy:

I saw the Atomic Bitchwax maybe 8 or nine times. Killer. Many of them were with Ed Mundell. I saw them at the Court Tavern in New Brunswick about 15 years ago and got blasted and remember jumping up on the stage and commandeering the microphone during their cover of Dirty Deeds. Then I closed the bar and hung out with them for a while...then I woke up in may car in the parking lot around 6:30 AM. Not one of my proudest moments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am
Mr. Pumpy:

@Jake...to be clear...I called 911 to save their lives...not to chase them off! This was mostly before Alphabet City became gentrified. Sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am
mariano:

Sounds like a hell of a proud moment to me, Mr. Pumpy!
  12:47am

bobby:

maybe no serial killer books...but maybe a real serial killer ...hopefully not...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50am
Mr. Pumpy:

@mariano...ha! Yeah...it wasn't too bad. I'm sure they were thinking, "Who the hell is this guy taking over vocals?!" Being Chris was busy playing bass and singing, he couldn't really stop me. I guess they weren't all that bent about it since we hung at the bar until the wee hours. I was sloppy though. Anyhow...rock n roll and all that shite!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am
Mr. Pumpy:

@Jake...I'm glad to have never dealt with a rich, obnoxious, possibly violent Dopecrusty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am
coelacanth∅:

what's this chick's name, Nicole Dopelganger?
  12:59am
JakeGould:

My fave deep Brooklyn junkie story was this out-of-state hobo/junkie couple that started to live in a small traffic island in a quiet part of the neighborhood. Meaning the “island” was more like a very small pocket park. And it was filled with junk… Until the junkie hobos showed up, cleaned it up so they could live there and they actually made it nice and clean. Neighbors appreciated it.

hobo culture was quite hearty in my town until just a few years ago. the business owners are aiming at a boring tourist attraction town and in their blindness they decided the tourists wont come because they're afraid of the curb critters.
...maybe afraid, but that's part of the thrill of coming to the weirdotown. it didn't deter them and now the travelers don't come around.

I still have trouble understanding the homelessness situation in NY, especially BK. I live in BK and grew up in New Paltz/BK... was too young to notice the situation in New Paltz but where I grew up in BK the homelessness situation was mostly vets in and out of the shelter. Where I live now in Sunset Park/Bay Ridge I'm not too familiar
Avatar 1:42am

and when I say homelessness I mean both the ones that stick around and the ppl who come and go
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43am

...i don't technically live there anymore but it's still "my town", as the village of my residence is 4 miles away and the village of new paltz is 4 miles away the other direction i still hang in the latter. i lived in np village for 11 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am

I liked NP the times I've been there. Pretty good Mexican place on the main drag iirc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48am
coelacanth∅:

i used to think all of the "homeless" folk in new paltz were people who chose to not settle, chose to not work, often from warmer climates who came to np in the summer then back south for the winter; but i currently know at least 5 people squatting in vacant houses and many other who have been couchsurfing for a long time.

Hey Keilihd, I live in Bay Ridge as well. The thing I have learned is there are neighborhood homeless people, but I have also learned that Bay Ridge is actually well known by the homeless elsewhere as a good place to go to since there are Catholic charities, lots of space and generally a more positive attitude towards homeless here than elsewhere.

JakeGould:

The gap area between the north side of Sunset Park and the south side of Bay Ridge is extremely like NYC in the 1980s. I’ve been explored a lot of that area where the BQE and Belt Parkway divided things and it is so weird space wise you can easily see why homeless people come here.
  1:55am

I used to live in Park Slope in the 1990s and watched the neighborhood slowly gentrify. I’m still stunned 5th Avenue is safe now.
