i sometimes forget that Cecil Taylor was really my introduction to "free jazz". i'd heard the name and that's all; found 3 albums (conquistador, stereodrive and Love for sale) cheap in an antique barn. i sometimes say David S Ware let me in but these albums came a few years earlier to me.

Hi Free Worlders! Nice to hear Cecil's sweeping, crashing tones (I believe this was my first "free jazz" purchase as well...i had newly discovered jazz, and was taken by a knowledgeable so-worker to J,&R Music, held my arms out, and he piled on albums he said I needed).

@fred: Try taking a cold shower when the boiler in your building is out and the ambient temperature outside is 12 F/-11C and indoors is 38F/3C and the water was the same temperature. After a week of that, my health suffered. (My wife was more smart, and showered at her gym).

I stepped out and missed a King Britt Remix. I saw him live a few times in the 90s (and once in 2005). Very hit or miss, the hits are rather solid....

I'm ambivalent with poetry in jazz. When the voice is an instrument, I'm all for it. When meaning dominates, it gets into the wrong kind of preaching and I tune out
