I’m with coel. It’s ice coffee for me, don’t need the caffeine, and I’m fine with a sprig of cilantro floating on top.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:52am Brian in UK:

I find that a Moka at home makes just enough coffee of strength to let you know it is there.
A lot of people seem to think that it is cool to say they need a coffee hit and then have a flat white.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Doug Schulkind:

@Gina Bacon
Only to some people! I don't really get a "soap" flavor, but it is fingernails on the chalkboard of my tastebuds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Webhamster Henry:

We had cilantro in our garden, and when it went to seed, I collected the Coriander! Nice!
Avatar 🥁 10:12am βrian:

That cilantro predisposition is just that. The taste is primarily learned, but oh boy, that first taste can be like biting into galvanic hell.
Avatar 10:12am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, is country music more disposed to sing about itself than other genres?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Webhamster Henry:

I like name-droppin' songs.
"Ernest Tubb's number 'Two Wrongs Don't Make A right' at the Grand old Opry on a Saturday Night"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
Some might argue that the blues sings about the blues more. To my ears, country music's self-referential thing is more overt and in-yer-face.

Brian, regarding your comment on flat white coffee, I must take issue.
At the usual outlets, its a small cup with a double shot of espresso, so it is actually the strongest.

"jazz" was originally a derogatory term. "what is this jazz?" was a way of saying what is this noise or what is this mess. - applied because it was improvised.
-this is why "free" jazz is the most authentic jazz.

Yes, there's 6 feet I'm buried alive! ;-D

Free jazz is my favorite because I have no money.

@Brian in UK
You have to zee it from my perspective.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am coelacanth∅:

Mbomb haha!
Avatar 10:52am Listener Gregory:

You know, a number of jazz musicians might have sung about synthesizers making weird sounds that ruined jazz, much like Jimmy Tucker did for country music. Instead, they just kept playing "Love For Sale."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Phillippe Bastille:

@coelacanth so when my wife tells me "that's a jazzy outfit" it's not the compliment I think it is? Would not surprise me one bit...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Doug Schulkind:

@coelacanth∅
Many artists have eschewed using the term "jazz" altogether. My hero Yusef Lateef called his work autophysiopsychic music.

Some trace the origins of the term "jazz" to jism. Jazz having first found a home in houses of ill repute in New Orleans and beyond... Might be apocryphal, but certainly a colorful etymology.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am coelacanth∅:

oh that lime-green striped suit with the giant collar?
it is pretty jazzy!
Avatar 10:57am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, totally jism!
This is the first time I have made that comment by the way.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:59am doctorjazz:

@Coel, that's why many "jazz" musicians have not wanted to be labeled jazz musicians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Doug Schulkind:

Say it with me, everyone!

Totally Jism was the name of my first band in high school.
Avatar 🥁 11:01am βrian:

Isn't that like shoe-glaze music?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:01am holland oats:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am coelacanth∅:

Doug i like the idea of doing away with the term altogether -along with most other "genre" names.
makes it harder to communicate with people though.
...and i've read that before about the other origin. kinda points in the same direction anyway!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Doug Schulkind:

  11:10am John from Florham park:

@Doug as I have gotten older and somewhat wiser this stink and the internet only streams have broadened my musical tastes to the point where I have given up on commercial rock radio and it is this Station or a couple of others, sorry to be somewhat long winded

@Doug I am on the mailing list a couple if can’t miss programs is Mary wing and dark night of the soul and uncle Michael show after yours

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am coelacanth∅:

i sometime answer the "what kind of music do you like" question with "adventurous music". -which is also the term that i've been trying to spread to replace the almost always incorrect "experimental music" category.

  11:38am Mark R:

This Kings Aigbologa Bucknor track is SMOKIN'!!! I love how these African cats like King Sunny Adé and Fela will just get these grooves going for 10, 20, sometimes 30 minutes! You feel like folks would just dance themselves literally to death.
  11:40am Mark R:

(Which wouldn't be a bad way to go, BTW.)
  11:40am Mark R:

Of course, it would be a bummer for the other dancers. "Did you have fun?" "Well, the band was great but some guy died on the dancefloor."
  11:41am rw:

Good morning! Woke up to the country music about country music set of country music. Cracked me up a bit.
  11:41am Mark R:

Reminds me of one of my favorite Hunter Thompson passages from "Fear & Loathing": "We were delayed in traffic when the car in front of us killed a pedestrian."
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:42am Sem:

Hearing this, and having read Steven Van Zandt's bio yesterday, prompts this:

"Van Zandt married actress Maureen Santoro in New York City on December 31, 1982. She later portrayed his wife in The Sopranos. Bruce Springsteen was the best man at the ceremony, which was presided over by Little Richard and featured Percy Sledge singing "When a Man Loves a Woman". -wikithingy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Doug Schulkind:

@Mark R
When you see this gentlemen perform live at home, they go for hours and hours and hours. The arbitrary restrictions of the recording industry and of performance venues in the western world have forced things down to much shorter durations.
  11:43am Mark R:

This is cool, but now I REALLY want to hear "Papa's New Bag Ain't Nothing But a Hag."
