@Jeff: taking them to my cobbler for a complete revision turned out to be a rare moment of foresight. I probably should buy new ones soon though

I mean, an increase in the day's Gillian Welch is never bad, but still . . .

Big welcomes to you, @hyde, @LP Stevenson, @holland oats, @listener james from westwood (agreed), and a pre-yoga @Doug!

i had to check that it wasn't my daughter's music connecting to my speaker which often happens around here.

"Accidentally," I"m sure, @Dave in VT.

Hey, Jeff. I'm glad you finally came on the air. I was about to call the fire department to do a wellness check on you.

Thank you for this nice, chill opening to your show. I slept later than usual today, and this is just right.

Take it easy and slow, @LG! Levels. Shovel in levels, as needed.

I shoveled around 5 last night, threw down some salt, and shortly after that, it turned to rain, so we're good.

Duck Baker, whose music ranges from traditional folk picking to more adventurous work like what we just heard, has a nice recital of Christmas tunes.
  10:27am
Mark R.:

Very flexible trombone playing by this guy in the Westerlies. Like the tight, complex arrangement of this piece. Forigve my ignorance, who was/is Robert Henry? (I'm too lazy too google)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:30am
doctorjazz:

Duck Baker used to also write interesting album reviews for Jazz Times (I think), which I used to enjoy reading. I first knew of him as a fingerstyle guitarist, mostly blues and older jazz styles, but he branched out quite a bit, as Dean noted.
  10:32am
Mark R.:

I tried to dance to that "Dance, Dance Rock" track but it really didn't work.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:32am

That Westerlies album is so new, it's not even out yet (pre-order on Bandcamp). Did really enjoy it as well...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am
Jeff Golick:

@Mark R.: I want to believe it's this one: "Robert Clayton Henry (July 16, 1921 – September 8, 1981) was Mayor of Springfield, Ohio from 1966 to 1968. He was the first African-American mayor of an American city of any size" -- but I'm honestly not sure.

Buddy of mine sent a link to a list of free jazz recordings of the decade: https://www.freejazzblog.org/p/the-free-jazz-collectives-top-101.html

That is, "best" free jazz recordings, so claim the compilers of the list.
