Avatar 12:09pm Hubig Pie:

Is it live or is it Memorex ?
Avatar 12:10pm JakeGould:

This sounds like Maxell or Certron tapes.

Hello, Mary, and totally present.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm chresti:

ARE WE LIVE? I BELIEVE WE ARE!
Hello Brian, chresti, John, Rich, Brainiac, Jake, Franco, Phillippe, Hubig, Sem, and rw!
Avatar 12:26pm Mary Wing:

This sitar track is 48 minutes long, if you needed to take a shower or other stuff, heh. It gets pretty interesting, though!
Avatar 12:27pm Mary Wing:

Oops, I meant, 43 minutes.
Avatar 12:27pm JakeGould:

DAMMIT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Rich in Washington:

I woulda sworn that De Schepper Trio track was a Bill Laswell thing, from the sound of it.
  12:29pm rw:

Mary, can you smell me from all the way in NJ?
  12:29pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

43 minutes? Are you having bathroom issues there Mary?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Rich in Washington:

I remember Brian Eno's Thursday Afternoon being the first piece of music composed to take full advantage of the running time of a Compact Disc.
Avatar 12:40pm βrian:

Ok, I'm putting off going to the kheer cart until this is over.
Avatar 12:44pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 12:47pm coelacanth∅:

hey Rich!
Avatar 12:47pm Sem:

Lovin' this ragatime sitaar.
Avatar 12:47pm βrian:

... ooh, and I see some kheer recipes call for saffron. I have a new mission.
Avatar 12:49pm coelacanth∅:

big into Eno and never knew that Rich (@12.28)...i know Cecil Taylor was excited that some of his compositions that formerly had to be divided into 2 pieces could now be heard without interruption.
Avatar 12:50pm coelacanth∅:

...(i should say i read that. i don't *know* anything)
Avatar 12:52pm Hubig Pie:

When this piece ends I'll know that it's time for lunch service here at the daycare
Avatar 12:53pm Mary Wing:

15 miinutes, Hubig!
Avatar 12:53pm βrian:

There'll be a whole cohort of kids who salivate at the sound of sitar music.
  12:55pm rw:

No longer stinky. I took the not so subtle hint that I needed a shower. Off to work. Will be listening from the road. Thanks in advance Mary and have a good Wednesday everyone!

  1:03pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

I mean it’s amazing but also very long
Avatar 1:03pm Mary Wing:

And hiya WR!
Avatar 1:03pm Mary Wing:

Heh, it would make quite the marathon 3oak, Aaron.
Avatar 1:05pm coelacanth∅:

i'm proud of my regularity
  1:05pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

You would have to start that 3oak at the top of the show
Avatar 1:06pm coelacanth∅:

(Mary's wheels are turning in preparation for the next time David can't do his show)
  1:09pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

Holy shit
Avatar 1:09pm coelacanth∅:

(i wonder if there are any covers of boris' sun baked snow cave, or the necks' silver water...)
  1:09pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

That was intense

Hi steveo, david, and sphere!
Avatar 1:22pm Hubig Pie:

Brian, meatball with the gravy and mash potato served with diced pear, biscuit and ice cold milk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm WR:

Ok, back to work so radio on very low. It was bugging me that selection being credited to Sylvian, I was wondering what level of involvement Sakamoto had, since I recognized the tune, the style, and was relieved when the playlist refreshed showing it was from the OST and not a Sylvian release.
Avatar 1:31pm Mary Wing:

Heh, I feel your frustration, WR.
Avatar 1:31pm βrian:

We sat in for a few lunches at our bambina's pre-school. I was impressed. Homemade pizza from scratch, steamed local produce. Durn good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...gonna start an all white band doing Spanish music
...call it - The Pink Flamencos

...whut ??
Avatar 1:36pm coelacanth∅:

and i was thinking how much that Sylvian (Sakamoto) track sounded like a talk talk song from around the same time
Avatar 1:37pm βrian:

Lets hear more covers of that Semimimimimin, yo?
Avatar 1:37pm Mary Wing:

Heh, I was just wondering if I could summon you to the comments with the Teardrop Explodes, RevRab! Obviously, it worked!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I fought the war for your sort !
Ringo : Bet you're sorry you won now...
Avatar 1:46pm Franco Twinkie:

My favorite Teardrop Explodes song is Sleeping Gas, which I am sure is referencing an old Popeye cartoon.
Avatar 1:49pm Mary Wing:

I don't think I could pick a favorite; I love Kilimanjaro and Wilder equally.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Michael 98145:

Hello, Mary
Avatar 1:53pm Mary Wing:

Hi Michael, just in time for 3oak!
Avatar 1:55pm Roberto:

Someday you should put together a 3mahogany set.
Avatar 1:57pm Mary Wing:

heh, now quit that, Roberto.
Avatar 1:57pm Roberto:

I wood if I could!
Avatar 1:59pm Sem:

Barking up the wrong tree, R.
Avatar 2:00pm Mary Wing:

Tell me what mahogany is an acronym for, and maybe I'll consider it, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm chresti:

Two minutes after 11 AM.
Avatar 2:06pm Roberto:

Mary Always Has Only Great And Nice Yodels
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Michael 98145:

Great choice ...
Avatar 2:10pm Mary Wing:

HAH! Nice, but not really about cover versions, is it?
Avatar 2:10pm coelacanth∅:

stoked for this 3oak!
Avatar 2:11pm Roberto:

It could be the segment dedicated to three or more yodels.
Avatar 2:11pm Mary Wing:

Did you hear me snickering on mic? That was when I read Roberto's comment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Stanley:

Crikey.
And hello.
Avatar 2:12pm Mary Wing:

Hi Stanley! That's what their paid for!
Avatar 2:12pm coelacanth∅:

i couldn't hear any of the mic break. i'm confused by the mahogany reference!
Avatar 2:14pm coelacanth∅:

(though i appreciate the resulting puns)
Avatar 2:16pm Mary Wing:

Scroll up, coela. Roberto thinks I should have a 3mahogany instead of 3oak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm brainiac:

"The Fat Lady of Limbourg", described by Eno as a "Burroughs-type song" about an asylum in Limbourg, Belgium, where the residents of it outnumber the population of the town. -Wikiwikiwoo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm chresti:

Isn't there a Mahogany song by Diana Ross?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Mahogany Rush - like Matt has Sammy Hagar...but quite a bit better...
I'm quite content they're all as sane as me...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm brainiac:

Mahagonny by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht — the worst night at the opera I ever spent. My head hurts just thinking about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm chresti:

That makes 3 of a Mahogany!
Avatar 2:28pm coelacanth∅:

oh,haha! and if you play 3+ of a haircut 100 song it can be 3balsa; conversely if it's an Isaac Hayes song 3ebony...(etc)
Avatar 2:29pm Mary Wing:

Let's not get carried away, coela...
Avatar 2:30pm Mary Wing:

I'm liking the guitar on this version!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Michael 98145:

yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah great solo. Unhinged but on the original.
Avatar 2:31pm Hubig Pie:

The Pinot Noirs get my vote for best cover so far
Avatar 2:33pm Mary Wing:

Shivaree gets my vote.
Avatar 2:34pm coelacanth∅:

yes the 3rd & 4th versions had me abandoning hope but now i'm stoked again. 3 excellent covers so far!
Avatar 2:34pm Hubig Pie:

I cast my vote before this was played
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm brainiac:

Dirt Dress was to my liking. Great 3oak, Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Michael 98145:

( so, this is a ditty about our current US Senate ...? )
Avatar 2:38pm βrian:

Ended up at the Tom Yum cart instead. Delicious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm doctorjazz:

Hi, been lurking, love this Eno song and its covers!
Avatar 2:39pm coelacanth∅:

dirt dress is very good. pinot & the noirs and shivaree i think are pretty stellar!
this one's good. not very creative, but good.
Avatar 2:40pm coelacanth∅:

i'm not surprised there are covers of this song but a little bit there are this many
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm Michael 98145:

yes, i had no idea
Avatar 2:41pm Mary Wing:

Hey there, doctorjazz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Konin:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Stanley:

Tu veux du camembert?
Avatar 2:50pm Mary Wing:

Oh no, NGH, not moving the record collection AGAIN?
Avatar 2:50pm Sem:

Saw the Inkspots in the 80s, the set was worn smooth from repetition, crowd went wild for "Set the World on Fire", and Paper Doll had the crowd leaping to its collective feet. Amazing, considering the average age had to be 75+.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Konin:

so hungry
Avatar 2:51pm Sem:

Peruvian beaver cheese, that's what I fancy just now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Stanley:

Sem - I only have Venezuelan beaver cheese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Konin:

Fermented?
Avatar 2:54pm Mary Wing:

Did they mention Peruvian beaver cheese in the Monty Python cheese shop sketch?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Stanley:

It's very runny
Avatar 2:55pm Mary Wing:

Oh, the cat's got it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Michael 98145:

"How do you milk a beaver?"
"Very carefully."
Avatar 2:55pm Sem:

I believe Stanley is quoting that sketch. Perhaps I was thinking of Peruvian Marching Powder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm chresti:

Goat cheddar with avocado.
Avatar 2:56pm Hubig Pie:

A wee wedge of Wensleydale please
Avatar 2:56pm northguineahills:

@Mary: No, my record collection is still at my friend's loft/club/performance space. But I need a place of my own as my brother bought a house and is moving in 3 weeks.
