(r.i.p) mister bowie you certainly impacted my life :(:::::::::::::::

Therese and Bill Kelly just gave me a perfect ten minutes of radio at the perfect time. It would take a while to explain, so I won’t. Know that you are doing good, and thank you.

Stanley:

Hi Therese and everyone.
Chresti - I'm grabbing a an hour or so before the game, broadcast live on the BBC.
The one night of the year I stay up very late. It'll be 3.30am over here by the time it's over.
Strange behaviour for an English person and I only have one friend who'll be doing the same. He's 400 miles away but we have the Whatsapp open.
  5:21pm
steveL:

Stanley: Welcome to our most widely shared holiday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm
Stanley:

Thanks, steveL. We're lucky to have highlights once a week over here and the London games broadcast in full. I'm not a big sports fan but American Football thrills me. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of the culture that surrounds it.
  5:27pm
steveL:

A co-worker handed off this Blur album in a pile of other CDs in the mid nineties. It’s a fucking masterpiece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm
Stanley:

I'm hearing an atmospheric soundscape track. Am I listening to the same thing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm
Stanley:

Nope. Now tuned in properly.
  5:30pm
steveL:

Stanley: Maybe not. Blur, now Gang of Four
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm
chresti:

Stanley-I'm avoiding it, I hear the big orange blister will be there, you know.
  5:30pm
steveL:

I’ve done that more than once!

Saw Gang of Four recently (in Sydney), a bit disappointed at the time only one original member, IE Gang of One. Good gig, but now not even One?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
Mr. Pumpy:

You all just reminded me the super bowl was today! I knew...but forgot. I'm not dumping on it...just not on my radar lately. And yes...living under a rock a bit! Anyhow...great set so far. RIP...Andy Gill.
  5:33pm
steveL:

So intense and fierce.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm

Chresti -I know it's not a big thing with FMUers, unlike baseball, which I know nothing about. In my my lifelong maverick manner, I once again find myself in the minority!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm

Yeah, I'm also in my office pool and I have no idea what my numbers are and have no intention of watching the game. Hopefully someone will have me a wad of cash tomorrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm
chresti:

Stanley-I'd pay less attention except..'NINERS!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm
Stanley:

Chresti - sure. It can't be helped. I hope not too many are reading me confessing to be watching the SB. What litle cred I have around these parts is all dashed.

I admit I’ll be watching the Super Bowl with the “mute” button on and Therese’s show blasting through the house.

@Stanley...don't let us bully you! Ain't nothing wrong with getting your Super Bowl on. Do yo thang! I happen to be ignorant of all things sports...and lately I've had a lot going n to make me even more so. Anyhow...Enjoy the bowl!

Over dinner here with my friend, I was trying to remember what TV show theme that was a few tracks back -- shocked to not be able to find it by that name on the playlist. So either it was known by another name, or they covered it by a rearrangement without credit.

It was a comedy, maybe The Mothers-In-Law.

  6:30pm
Listener Robert:

Therese, if you know what TV show that was quoting (or ripping off) the theme of, could you please say it when you back announce? It must've been either Spectrum or Poor Moon. Otherwise I'm going to have to listen to the archive and wrack my brain forever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
Tommy in Neversink:

I'd like to tell you how much I loved YOU DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING by Overlake but I can't put it into words
  6:35pm
Beep Boop:

Now THIS is uplifting! Anyone else watching that HBO show with the old racists that just make stuff up as they go? No? Nobody's watching that show? Oh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm
Mr. Pumpy:

I found it! Well...not sure about TV shows, but the Atomic Forest track has a lick or two in it from Billy Cobham's Spectrum album from track Stratus. I think the intro was also from a Mahavishnu song. Trying to track down which one now. Here's the Cobham track:www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Iron Giant !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm
Mr. Pumpy:

@ Therese...thanks! Imma check out Atomic Forest now...try and get some vinyl. Do you have any knowledge that can help me with this Cobham/Mahavishnu link? I't probably they were just fans and were paying homage. Thanks...
  6:43pm
Listener Robert:

I found what I was looking for too...it was indeed the main theme from Mothers-in-Law, and someone has put on YouTube hilarious descriptive-of-the-show lyrics to it -- www.youtube.com...

Now I still have to listen to the archive to determine which track in that last set it was.

I think there are gluten free options also.
  6:52pm
Listener Robert:

Using SoundCloud, I've ruled out Poor Moon. So must've been Spectrum from Disco Roar.
  6:55pm
Beep Boop:

Good new song!
  6:56pm
Listener Robert:

YES!! soundcloud.com... starting at 55 seconds, compare to www.youtube.com...

I guess that counts as parody. If not, it's just a rip-off.
  6:59pm
Listener Robert:

You have to start at 0:15 of The Mothers In Law to hear the quoted passage.
  6:59pm
Listener Schned:

At the risk of cliche: hear ya, Therese, recently ran into someone I was at Hunter College with, like a solid 40 years ago- the connection was also brief-ish but affirmative, we now touch base here and there, supportively, and it's a great help in the era of the "dumpster fire" (!) Nice phrase-coinage, great broadcast as always!

I'll go with the Ann-Margret & Lee Hazlewood version! Much better, but I do like this one also.
  7:29pm
Listener Robert:

I just noticed "Spectrum" also started with a similar bongos roll to the Mothers In Law theme. So I guess that means it was a tribute or homage, because you wouldn't put in that much musical allusion unless you wanted someone to catch it.
