A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm
Rich in Washington:

The lacquer plant thing I mean. not the playlist
Avatar 7:54pm
edelkakao cha cha:

YES! I have cassettes from Love Records (THE legendary Finnish Record label) from 1970s and they still play OK. Even at the time they were not of the best quality tape to my knowledge? And still they are playable. Now my external hard drive has lovely amounts of music unknown even to its owner but one day it will go COUGH COUGH while the 1970s tapes I have will still be playable

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm
Kat in Chicago:

ParUbi, if you have access to a good place that repairs and sells old equipment, I'd say go there. deciBel in Chicago sold me a lovely Sony with soft touch controls for $85. Single-well decks are a better choice than doubles, I believe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm
Rich in Washington:

The original song being looped is by The Harvey Averne Dozen and it's really beautiful in itself. I was unfamiliar with it until hearing this Riley piece years ago.

I'm gonna check that out after the show, ironybread. Rich, I've never heard the original.

Kat&Geezerette: this & the Universal fire. on my deathbed I will remember these as the two instances that have changed the history of recorded music so much for the worse (I really hope it will be these two, not too many more to come)
