The northwest, with a wild music scene in the mid sixties, was host to numerous battles of the bands. In Seattle, KJR hosted their version, with winners getting free time in a recording studio. It gave rise to two albums entitled Battle of the Bands on Panorama records in 1966 and 1968 featuring many of these groups. Ace Records released a series of compilations entitled Northwest Battle Of The Bands with similar sleeves and a good representation of the bands that would have played.

Don and the Goodtimes - Little Sally Tease / Portland OR. Don Galluci on keyboards, started in the Kingsmen at the age of 15, that's him playing on Louie Louie. Written by guitarist Jim Valley. Also covered by the Standells and Kingsmen. This song got them signed to Dunhill records and was released nationally, it was also released regionally on Jerden.

Merrilee and The Turnabouts - Tell Me The Truth / Seattle. There are three different versions of Tell Me the Truth, including with her first band, the Statics. 2 years later, the Turnabouts were in Memphis opening for the Paul Revere and the Raiders tour. While in Memphis, the Raiders recorded their album Going to Memphis at American Sound Studios, and Merrilee met producer Tommy Cogbill, who had been looking for the right vocalist for Angel of the Morning. The Turnabouts learned it and their version made it to #7 on June 29, 1968. The song was written by Chip Taylor, who also wrote Wild Thing.

Sonics - He's Waitin / formed 1960 in Tacoma, Washington, They played in several local dance halls and in high schools, until Buck Ormsby, bass player of The Wailers, signed them to Etiquette records, the Wailers' label. They put out The Witch backed with Keep a Knockin and the rest is history.
