Police Story 2 is outrageously good & funny, still haven't caught up to 3 (supercop?)

ah shit i gotta run. adios Sam and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
Sam Segal:

I didn't expect Police Story to be as funny as it was. That scene where he's juggling all the phones in the 911 dispatch office is Marx Brothers brilliance.

Peace, Flash!

Throw the pumpkin at the tree, unless you think that pumpkin holds your destiny. Cast it off into the sea. Bake that pie and eat it with me.

I was given an empty picture frame for Christmas in 2014 by my uncle (I think as a symbol that I was getting lost in life)

So I cut out a picture of Alan Watts and have had a framed picture of Alan Watts ever since.

(just curious)

Hi.i just tuned in to some wicked guitar noise, then got Mexican music from the stream.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
coelacanth∅:

oh, and Pat Metheny just got supplanted by something from mexico, i believe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm

Jasper knocked my computer down and the mixer got unplugged! But everything seems okay now. Carry on!

That Metheny sound. Signature.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:58pm

That's really Pay Metheny? I did hear him with Ornette, but still...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
doctorjazz:

Now sounding more Metheny, but it got pretty wild there for a bit.
  11:00pm
Chris Farrell:

It really is a strange victory
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
Sam Segal:

Funny you mention Pat and Ornette. Was planning to play that Song X record a bit later.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:01pm

Or is it not him..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Sam Segal:

No it was him! On synth!
Avatar 11:02pm

Went to see if I could date the Pat and Lyle show I saw around here years ago, and what do I learn first? That Lyle died a week ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Sam Segal:

Reading about Lyle's death is what got me thinking about Pat Metheny actually. I wasn't super familiar with the records he did with Lyle Mays, so I played the Pat I had.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
doctorjazz:

Back in the day when I thought I wouldlearn jazz guitar, I took lessons from a teacher in Manhattan who had studied with Jim Hall. I went with him to see Hall at the Village Vanguard one night, and Hall came over to chat. He told us he had played with Metheny (?record date? Not sure), and went on and on about what a monster player Metheny was. That, and the Ornette connection, got me too take him much more seriously (not that he gives a damn what I think, of course)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
Sam Segal:

It was the Ornette connection that did it for me as well, Doc.

Welcome, Doug! Don't mind my misbehaving cats.

Dean:

Song X came to me from a recommendation from a library school colleague. Changed my (musical) life. And the Sign of Four record still blows me away.

I was selling records when Metheny's ECM stuff with Mays was the rage. I never dug it wholeheartedly, but I always recognized they were super-talented.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
doctorjazz:

Billy Harper, great player (and sweet guy, from my quick meeting with him)
  11:37pm
Doug Schulkind:

Gary had cat issues earlier during his show. I guess it’s a thing now. Great pitching point during the marathon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
Sam Segal:

Speaking of Song X, Dean!
  11:37pm
Dean:

Heard François Houle at a house in N. Berkeley on Sunday. Solo clarinet, quite lovely. Larry Ochs was in attendance.
  11:38pm
Dean:

Speaking of!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:38pm

(I brought my daughter to see him at a Brooklyn club when she was young. We talked to him a but between sets, then in the next set, he dedicated a song to Papa little miss" . My daughter never forgot it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
Sam Segal:

Ah that is such a sweet story, Doc.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
doctorjazz:

Need to go to sleep, set is making it really hard to do...
  11:42pm
Dean:

As a matter of fact, I heard Houle at the same house where last year I heard Roscoe Mitchell with Tyshawn, and next year I'll hear Vandermark's trio.
  11:43pm
Dean:

Er, not next year, but this coming June...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:43pm

That's a great set up, Dean! Very jealous!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm

You're lucky you get to see all these acts in a house show setting, Dean.
  11:44pm
Dean:

I miss more than I see. The guy is quite an impresario. He's curating Other Minds this year.
