WFMU Fundraiser Show With MC Sheila B
Please Make a Pledge Here, Thanks!
Listen to this show:
Pop-up player!
Greetings dear listeners! I hope you can pledge tonight to support WFMU!
If you pledge to my show right here, as usual I've made a custom conceptual world music cd for everyone who pledges $75 or more.
This year's custom cd is Transpacific Sound Paradise with Rob Weisberg presents Switched-On Planet: A global keyboard bacchanal: sublime, absurd, and spectacular international synth/piano/keyboard-driven gems!
Of course, if my cd doesn't float your boat you can choose a different DJ's premium (cd or otherwise) instead. (Or if you make a one-time or swag-for-life pledge at higher levels you can choose multiple DJ premiums.) You can see the full list of DJ CD premiums at
https://wfmu.org/dj-premiums/.
I’m now in my fourth decade on WFMU! Who’d a thunk it? Perhaps you’ll consider celebrating my radio longevity / commitment / obsession to discovering, learning about and especially sharing far-flung music from around the globe by making a $10 per month (or more) sustaining Swag For Life pledge.
If you do, your cup shall runneth over with WFMU swag EVERY year!
This year for a pledge of $50 or more you get our spanking new Event Horizon T-shirt designed by Matt Osborn T-shirt plus a WFMU bumper sticker.
And for a $10 per month swag for life pledge you'll receive our brand new WFMU Visionary Pyramid T-Shirt designed by Dima Djuchin!
Bump your monthly Swag For Life pledge to #15 a month (or make a one-time $180 pledge or multiple pledges adding up to $180 or more) and you'll receive our truly one-of-a-kind Mindfulness for Jerk-Offs Cassette / mp3 download with audio tracks created by over 40 WFMU DJs and art by SWIVS! That level also entitles you to the two new t-shirts, the sticker AND 3 DJ premiums! Bonus: You also can have a WFMU fixture re-named in your honor!
We love dollar a day Swag For Life pledgers - we call that a "Mouse of Today" pledge. And if you "drop a Mouse" on our show (a $365 one-time pledge or multiple pledges adding up to $365 or more also do the trick) you'll receive tons of swag! Including Olaf’s Chiller Pullover Hoodie on black cotton designed by Olaf.! That level also entitles you to the two new t-shirts, sticker, the Mindfulness cassette AND 7 DJ premiums!
Bump your Mouse of Today commitment up to $41 per month (or make one-time pledge or pledges totalling $500) and you'll get a dozen DJ premiums, the two-t-shirts, hoodie, Mindfulness cassette, sticker, a choice of two classic prizes from our warehouse, AND the beautifully designed WFMUNITED Altered States of Music Map designed by Greg Harrison!
But any amount you can pledge is most fabulous and wonderful. And it just takes a $20 pledge to get our fab new Chiller Die-Cut Bumper Sticker, designed by Olaf, discount admission to our Record Fair April 24 - 26 at Brooklyn Expo Center - AND you’ll get in the running for a prize drawing for one of the great LPs and CDs I’m giving away to lucky pledgers this evening!
A premium-cd-level pledge of $75 or more made during tonight's show also gets you into the running for our grand prize, Music Of Morocco: Recorded by Paul Bowles, 1959: A four CD set plus 120 page book released by the label Dust-to-Digital. The package features extensive liner notes by Philip Schuyler, the original field notes by Paul Bowles, and an introduction by Lee Ranaldo. This collection was originally recorded by Bowles for the US Library of Congress who released it in 1960.
From Dust-to-Digital's online introduction:From July to December 1959, Paul Bowles crisscrossed Morocco making recordings of traditional music under the auspices of the Library of Congress. Although the trip occupied less than six months in a long and busy career, it was the culmination of Bowles’s longstanding interest in North African music. The resulting collection remained a musical touchstone for the rest of his life and an important part of his mythology.
What is SWAG FOR LIFE? It's WFMU's sustaining donor program - where we ask you to commit to a small monthly donation and as our thank-you for that commitment, you receive LOTS of swag. Sustaining pledgers are critical to the station's financial health and we are hoping many of you decide to become "Swag For Lifers" this month! It's all explained at https://wfmu.org/swagforlife/.
SPECIAL WFMU GRAND PRIZE CALIFORNIA FESTIVAL TRIP CONTEST FOR ELIGIBLE GENEROUS PLEDGERS: One lucky listener who pledges $83 per month or more will receive round-trip airfare for two, lodging, and two tickets to attend the Burger Booglaloo Music Festival this July 11-12 in Oakland, California - hosted by the one and only John Waters! Featuring performances by Question Mark and the Mysterians, Bikini Kill, Plastic Bertrand, Bleached, Pansy Division, Flipper and many more. Pledge $83 a month or more and you'll be entered in the drawing.
SEE THE SWAG (what you get at various pledge levels - new sticker, new t-shirts, and lots of other brand new goodies at higher levels) at https://wfmu.org/swag.
And whatever you can pledge to support our very special radio station is so very much appreciated. Thanks soooooo much!

I am still flushed and heady from Sheila B's show last night. We threw and kind of massive bday party for the dog this afternoon at the pinball arcade, and I took advantage of seeing friends I don't see as often as I would like to just full-out proselytize for WFMU and shows like SBB last night and what TPSP does every week. I love this place. I love it. Sheila, you are telling it like it is!
