	10:26am zzz: this may be a little too ‘behind the scenes’, so fee free to now answer but just curious- someone at the station procures the albums/etc from labels, and do the DJs then pick what they want to offer or are they given a bunch and those are what they work with?

	🥁 10:31am Doug Schulkind: @zzz All the DJs submit to the WFMU music director a wish list of things they would like to give away as a marathon prize. The music director then reaches out to labels and artists asking for donations. Whatever she is able to procure is then apportioned to all the DJs based on what they originally requested. Additionally, there is a vast trove of great CDs, books, DVDs and other items that we still have leftover from previous marathons. DJs can supplement their prize lists with items from that trove.

	🥁 10:40am Doug Schulkind: Every marathon, there are always a few prizes that you hear a bunch. That is in part because the music is phenomenal, and in part because the artist or record label was extremely generous and gave the station multiple copies.

	🥁 11:06am WR: Regarding Hattie Wall title, could not find anything regarding the title but did find this quote from Bluiett: Bluiett feels that he brings a unique, and much needed, melodic sense into the WSQ. “Tunes like ‘Hattie Wall,’ ” he explains, “I wrote those tunes to have something that we could come out and play, that people could catch and go home with, as opposed to some of the other stuff that’s written. I love it, but when you get through it, nobody can remember a note ’cause it’s not melody-oriented. That’s what makes music. Like ‘’Round Midnight’ [he sings the first two bars] – you know it’s a melody, right? The chords are one thing, but you gotta have some melodic entity.

The music director then reaches out to labels and artists asking for donations. Whatever she is able to procure is then apportioned to all the DJs based on what they originally requested. Additionally, there is a vast trove of great CDs, books, DVDs and other items that we still have leftover from previous marathons. DJs can supplement their prize lists with items from that trove.
