Hi BC!
Hi Mr. Fab!
Hi Linda Lee!

All hands on deck :-)

Oh wow!
I'm sort of half expecting my work to shut down for a spell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Chris has been working from home since last Tuesday, and he works for an international charity so they've had to cancel representatives coming in to the country for meetings :-(

Wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Tim! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is one hell of a diverse collection of records to take samples from - and these aren't even all the tracks that were used in Odelay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
Rich in Washington:

Wow. I clearly hadn't listened to Odelay closely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - it's crazy, isn't it? You just think - how could all of these tracks meld into that one album?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Well - these tracks and more besides.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

There's a chap on YouTube who recreates The Prodigy's songs and the range of samples on those is equally insane.
Avatar 7:21pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

WHY OH WHY ARE ALL THE GOOD SHOWS ON THE AIR AT THE SAME TIME?!?!??!!? I really need to check this one from the archives... PS. GG, our UK trip is definitely cancelled - Shiiiiiit, I really would have wanted us to have a cuppa and a chat :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - we shall have to take a rain check, BUT we will most definitely see each other soon :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
Rich in Washington:

Ok, THAT one I recognize.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - some are a little more OHH!!! than others ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

And this one ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
Rich in Washington:

Wow. Yeah, It's been many, many years since I've heard Odelay, clearly. Dang. I just saw it used recently and I very nearly picked it up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's definitely stood the test of time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm
Rich in Washington:

Not sure what madness took me, but many years ago, I purged a huge collection of CDs which I'd bought in the 90s. I miss a fair amount of it and try to replace them when able.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I did that with some albums ... And of course, I can't find them again. Not for the bargain basement charity shop prices I paid anyway. lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
Rich in Washington:

There's currently a flood of 90s big label music on CD showing up in charity shops around here. Occasionally, there'll be some rather fringy 90s stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I haven't done any hardcore crate digging in too long - once we can all go out again I need to do that.
Avatar 7:37pm
BC Sterrett:

lol. I'm planning a show completely of thrift store CDs in the upcoming weeks. CDs are the current fertile field of thrift store finds in my opinion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm
Rich in Washington:

Still can't replace my dang Paul's Boutique, though. I NEVER see that one used.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@BC - fantastic!! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm
Rich in Washington:

yeah, I agree. And almost no one's looking at CDs.
Avatar 7:38pm
BC Sterrett:

And people are dumping them like crazy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm
Rich in Washington:

In my town, Goodwill Industries has pretty much run every independent thrift store out of business and their record bins are really full of garbage records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I remember your videos of the massive bins and the bells and people just going nuts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah, I love the CD purge thing. It reminds me of vinyl records in the 80s. Just treasure after treasure.
  7:39pm
CC:

Hi Georgy Girl... hope all is well in England really digging Van Morrison and Them..!..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
Rich in Washington:

The bins. I almost never go to the bins. It's so surreal.
Avatar 7:40pm
BC Sterrett:

LPs are very picked over in my area. CDs are where it's at.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi CC! :-)
It's a bit crazy here but ... you know. :-)
Avatar 7:40pm
Mr Fab:

I SO so wanted an all instrumental version of Odelay. Loved the Dust Bros (speaking of Pauls Boutique), hated Beck’s muppety voice and mumbo-jumbo lyrics. Does an instro version exist?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm
Rich in Washington:

I love this meta-album show concept.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

An instro version would be really interesting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you, Rich :-)
  7:41pm
CC:

Gettin' too crazy here!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Bernard's just showing off now ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
Rich in Washington:

Just use a vocal zapper/karaoke thingy! There are tutorials on how to remove the center of a stereo mix and eliminate most of the vocal track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
Rich in Washington:

My CD decks will do it. I should buy Odelay and try it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
Rich in Washington:

I think The Dust Brothers really made the Beastie Boys stuff great. Without them, not so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm gonna need a bit of a leg stretch in a minute!
Avatar 7:48pm
Mr Fab:

Yeah I used to use such software when i made mashups back in my RIAA daze, but it only really worked with ‘60s type primitive stereo albums. Where much of the music was hard panned left and right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Is it me or is this a little Touch Me In the Morning in places?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The Joe Thomas track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
Rich in Washington:

my denon decks can sort of phase out vocals, but you can still faintly hear an echoey vocal track buried in it.
  7:54pm
Listener Robert:

This one's in the vein of what was being talked about on Techtonic tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Robert! :-)
  7:55pm
Listener Robert:

Ach! Meant to post on Vocal Fry, but hi anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you all for listening! Now - go wash your hands ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
Rich in Washington:

Thanks, GeorgyGirl! This has been a fun and illuminating show!
Avatar 7:58pm
Mr Fab:

Ah, how i loved the Jerri Curl era of hip hop.
  7:58pm
CC:

Take care Georgy Girl...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm

I'm doing elbow bumps to everyone ;-)
