The Surgeon General has just issued a statement that people should listen to records with a good steady beat that can be easily danced to.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Blacktooth:

Bob Mould still just ripping the face off pop rock after all these years. Such a masterful song writer....

@xtrakrispy: Thank you, but I put my pant legs on one at a time, same as you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm ChrisB.:

The last time I saw Todd, recently, I'll say I knew 4 songs. But know what? The show was great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm McGroovey:

Utopia's 1982 Network album: I think the label went bust. I bought my copy the day it came out. Great record. And it actually had an MTV hit on it ("Feet Don't Fail Me Now").
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Corey:

Thanks for coming in Joe! The world needs rock and roll in these times too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm WoodsOfNH:

Speaking of G E Smith, I have a record by The Scratch Band...late 70's. I never saw them but a cousin of mine used to see them all the time at Toad's in New Haven.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm McGroovey:

I wanted to see Todd on the current tour, but the tickets for the NYC show were too pricey for me. I expect that the tour might not even happen now, though.
Avatar 12:27pm modern blaze:

when is silent fundraiser planned? totally forgot
Avatar 12:29pm Joe B:

@WoodsOfNH I picked up a (the?) Scratch Band record at a WFMU Record Fair a year or two ago, it's pretty good!
Avatar 12:34pm Hoboken Jack:

Thanks for the sweet distraction of rock and roll, Joe. Hey TOPT, EFD, McGroove, Nick, Melinda, HP Ken, everybody.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm doctorjazz:

The 1st few chords of this Jetz had me thinking Valley Lodge.
  12:45pm Listener Robert:

I noticed that this morning the pledge meter rolled back about $13,000. Not surprising that in the rush, things get confusing for Ms. Jones, but still a bummer.

I still think you'll hit the goal earlier this year than last. You're already well ahead of last year in $.
  12:46pm SeanG:

time for a beer!
Avatar 12:48pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Connie's finest hour....or 2 and a half minutes.
Avatar 12:49pm Woo:

Billy Joe Royal followed by Connie Francis. Everything feels better now.
Avatar 12:52pm modern blaze:

mr. G isn't it early for a beer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Ike:

There's a hideous Connie Francis movie poster at work. IDK why, but after walking past it 5,000x it has started to really aggravate me. It's for a movie that Johnny Carson was also in. He later slagged that movie over and over and over again in his monologues. (But that song wasn't bad at all!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm doctorjazz:

In General, I recall most years having more to go to reach the goal at the end of the Marathon. The difference this year is losing the Record Fair, Monty Hall shows, which pick up some of the slack.
  12:54pm John in Bklyn:

I was just going to say... I think Joe Pesci and Frank Vincent had a band around the Belleville and Bloomfield area in the 70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Mike Sin:

re: Billy Joe Royal
He also has that cool version of Joe South's "Hush"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Ike:

Fortunately (or unfortunately?) our Joe Pesci conference room has no movie posters of him.
  12:57pm John from Florham park:

Ahoy all, thanks Joe, you’re shining light on a dim day
  1:04pm Frank Zaatar:

One of the great unheralded rock songs of the 60s. "I lost my harmonica, Albert"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm LastWhiteRhino:

Good afternoon Joe Belock. It was great to finally meet you in person during the marathon. Love your show, always had, always will.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Handy Haversack:

Heya, @Dungaroos! Hope you're doing OK.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm patrick321:

Avatar 1:06pm Joe B:

DK- hang in there man. sheesh. hope all is well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Handy Haversack:

Joe, I barely even hold you personally responsible for this pandemic. -- And it was really a treat to meet you in person. Despite it all, Kate and I had a great JC/WFMU weekend. She left a CD for you -- with our bestest wishes!
Avatar 1:07pm modern blaze:

Avatar 1:07pm Joe B:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Handy Haversack:

@Dungaroos, maybe all this means that by the time the season actually starts, the Ghost of Giancarlo Stanton will have been recorporealized!
  1:09pm Tim 'O Saurus:

Great show today Joe!

WFMU + sun going down + room temp beer
Avatar 1:09pm modern blaze:

Avatar 1:10pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

  1:11pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

Hiya Joe! I just returned from social distancing down the Jersey Shore. I did some work on the house while listening to the Marathon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm LastWhiteRhino:

@ Handy Haversack: It was great meeting you and Kate at Stashu's Polka-Go-Go. Too bad the Jersey City curfew kicked in that night.
  1:13pm Mark in Toronto:

A set of B. Dylan sound-a-likes or pastiches might be good. That S&G song, Tom Petty, Butch Hancock, Colonel William-something (a whole album), Weird Al.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Handy Haversack:

@LWR, you too! I know. We had a PATH Train of the Damned ride home. Don't worry -- the JC girls were not letting a little pandemic keep them out of the clubs!

But that was a really fun night and a great way to stock up on a little joy for any lean days to come!
  1:17pm Woo:

I was just looking at some unlabeled cassetes and popping them in to see what's what. Not much. That's why they were never labeled.
Avatar 1:18pm modern blaze:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Handy Haversack:

@Daybreak -- it was sure necessary!

Glad I was there to take your call! That was a blast. Also took pledges from Andy the Painter, Clay Pigeon, Lenny Kaye, and Dennis Diken. Pretty fun!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Handy Haversack:

It's a tightrope, @tom!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Handy Haversack:

I'm putting together a list of WFMU shows that I think Kate's parents might like since they're stuck inside in Seattle. This seems like a good gift to give people right now.

Hey Joe! You can’t curfew Rock and Roll! In your mind or in your earbuds at least it seems until 8:00pm.
  1:43pm melinda:

Airport food options are far better than they used to be but probably not the best examples of good local food.

@steveo Cool. I'll have to listen to that. She's really one of my favorite music writers.

Well. I like The Outta Place! Sounds so 60's. Thanks Joe!

Oh wow, I haven't updated that in years. But thanks! I'll have to put more stuff up in there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm steveo:

@Ike i just started reading children of time... reallly good so far; seems perfect for these insane times we find ourself in (no spoilers)
  2:46pm Chi Bill:

I actually like the sappy Deep Purple version of River Deep. IBM does it pretty darn good too.
Avatar 2:46pm modern blaze:

that's cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Handy Haversack:

What year was that Shed cover from?

This sounds fantastic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Ike:

@steveo, I enjoyed that one even though it borders on breaking the "show don't tell" rule a little too much. It nonetheless "tells" very well. I wish I get pick up some more books at the BPL but they're closed as of today. Grr! I was supposed to pick up something called "Mazes of Power" today. I don't want to borrow novels on a screen!
Avatar 2:47pm Joe B:

handy, i think 2009. it's on their bandcamp
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Handy Haversack:

Cool -- sounded great, Joe B. Kate was wondering!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm steveo:

@ike, i haven't noticed that yet; i am reading it on Overdrive which is the somewhat clunky ereader that many BPL titles are on exclusively. I prefer a book, but it's often easier to get stuff in the electronic version. I also enjoy having something to do on my phone besides refresh twitter for 7 hours non-stop.

fab show, Joe! Thank the gods for ROCK!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Handy Haversack:

@steveo: You reading PDFs on Overdrive, or reflowable format?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm steveo:

the latter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Uncle Michael:
