When FMU became available as a high quality digital stream over the webs, it was a real game-changer. I can listen anywhere, even on my phone via the app while shopping, walking on a beach, or whatever. Used to be, when traveling out of the area, knowing I wouldn’t be hearing Dave the Spazz or Jim Price or Nick the Bard was just a fact of life. Now I can go to Chicago and still listen to Jeffrey Davison while I’m brushing my teeth, or hear Clay’s show while sipping espresso beside a canal in Venice.

In the 90's, I was living in London and had a VCR hooked up to a radio tuner on a timer. I would record dozens of hours of FMU, then have my mom mail the tapes to London so I could listen. I still have some cassettes of Music to Spazz by, and the Hound and other shows from the 90s, though sadly the VCR tapes (8 hours each!) are long gone...
