I am a human talking to humans -- and glad for it!

Hi, everyone. Again?
  12:03am
rich:

rich:

and i am a dj soundtracking your interactions -- and humbled by the ability to do so
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am
Mr. Pumpy:

Hey...coelacanth∅, Handy, rich. It's been a long time since I caught the beginning of a show. Let's engage in the squirrel love.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am
chresti:

Hello rich and carcass gatherers
  12:05am
jeanli:

This is just perfect for settiling my freaking nerves, thank you
  12:06am
rich:

sound more like a wolf, fox. and mr pumpy when i type your name the computer wants to change it to mr puppy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06am
Mr. Pumpy:

I am a witness to that beautiful interaction...and growing from it. As in to grow...to become more!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06am
Chop Scott:

Happy to be here listening!
  12:07am
P-90:

“... engage in the squirrel love.” Hmm...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am
Mr. Pumpy:

Mr. Puppy is fine...you can even drop the formalities and go straight up, Puppy. No bother.
  12:07am
rich:

chop scott we love your ears at the carcass
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am
Handy Haversack:

Mr. Puppy sounds like a dangerous video game enemy. Let's stick with what we have!
  12:08am
rich:

Straight Up Puppy sounds like a good name for something though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am
Mr. Pumpy:

Damn...this sounds so much like an arpeggio I came up with recently on a free online sequencer. I couldn't really tell you about it theory wise. It was like splatter art for the ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am
Scott Williams:

Lovely opener, Rich! Happy my ears are here with you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am
Mr. Pumpy:

True...Mr. Puppy has theme music...and a posse, or minions. NG
  12:09am
rich:

jeanli i apologize in advance for the possibility of unsettling them sometime in the next three hours
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am
Mr. Pumpy:

Straight Up Pup. That has a ring to it...
  12:10am
rich:

scott i bow to you. a big round of applause good people for the man behind the board this evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am
Handy Haversack:

I see Straight Up Puppy on a sign on a tent for some reason.

When SM Ken was talking about the Yokohama Licking Festival, I kept picturing a vendor room with all these vendors trying not to be embarrassed that they, too, thought the name Just Toads! would set them apart from the crowd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am
Mr. Pumpy:

@rich...great disclaimer, but I hope it's more of a guarantee!
  12:11am
P-90:

Yeah, “Mr. Puppy” sounds like a character who’s inevitably up to no good.
So, is this an archive-with-contemporary-comments, “new”-prerecorded, or...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am
Handy Haversack:

(Continued grateful praise, @Scott Williams! Praise him with great praise!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am
Mr. Pumpy:

@Handy...I am a camping enthusiast! Although it sounds like you may mean a vendor tent. "No bells or whistles on this pup...just straight up! (save fore the bell and or whistle it comes with free with purchase)"
  12:13am
rich:

prerecorded
  12:14am
P-90:

“Straight Up Pup” sounds like an animated character that does educational rap videos for preschoolers on PBS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am
Mr. Pumpy:

Damn, Rich...this is scratching an itch. Big Time! Has my right leg twitching and everything!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am
Mr. Pumpy:

@P-90...what subjects does he cover?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am
Handy Haversack:

Yeah, Mr. P, I think my brain might have put that tent at ... a ren fair!

I'll scold it later.

This is really working on/for me, Rich. Thanks for your pre-work!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am
Mr. Pumpy:

Crime? Watercolors? Estuaries?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am
Mr. Pumpy:

Well then my brand really went it's own way...even if thrice removed. Puppy don't play Ren!
  12:17am
P-90:

Thanks to Rich for recording the show, and continuing thanks to Scott (The Man Who Never Sleeps) W.
  12:17am

not even if there's a mud eater?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am
Mr. Pumpy:

Someone/thing is creeping round the corner with this tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am
Mr. Pumpy:

@rich...I had to look that up. Who woulda thunk?! dang...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19am
Mr. Pumpy:

Damn...I'm digging the steel drum sound playing with the upright in this Molecular endeavor. Whoah...what the hell was that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am
Handy Haversack:

That's a pica meat-a-ball!

(Gah. Had a pica joke trying to make its way into the wold since Irwin's show. I just don't think there's a way to make them work.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am
Scott Williams:

@P-90 no sleep til the new back-to-normal! Whatever that'll be... Meantime, I'm honored to captain this ghost ship thru weird waters
  12:21am
rich:

mr pumpy mud-eaters and falconry are the reasons to go to a renaissance fair
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am
Handy Haversack:

@rich, have you ever read _The Goshawk_ by T. H. White? Strongly recommend! A confrontation of two totally alien intelligences, using methods 400 years out of date, with the subtext of evading the social pressure of being against fighting a very popular war. And it's short!
  12:24am
Adam West Coaster:

Friends, rodents, Covidmen, I am pleased to be in your midst!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am
Mr. Pumpy:

@Handy...I had a joke in the making for years about my friends town Kenilworth. There's a joke in there somewhere, but it's impossible to find.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am
Mr. Pumpy:

@rich...I always thought it was for the other two reasons...
  12:26am
rich:

handy i have not, thanks for the recommendation
  12:26am
rich:

you mean the blacksmiths and the funnel cake
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am
Handy Haversack:

Remind me to tell you my fund-raising scheme based around a fake all-kill dog shelter with lots of webcams in the kennels one day, Mr. P. We just might find that joke!

There are cheap used paperbacks around, @rich, and I think NYROB reissued recently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am
coelacanth∅:

we used to call kenilworth kenilworthless
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am

@Handy...I meant to remind you...that fund raising scheme about the fake dog shelter. All kill? Webcams?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am
coelacanth∅:

...scummit; morosetown
  12:31am
rich:

coel time to do a guidebook
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am
coelacanth∅:

hey Mr.P how ya been?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am
Mr. Pumpy:

@coel...it wasn't a play on the name...it was like a, What's a Henway? type sich-ee-ation...and I cant shoehorn it into submission
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am
coelacanth∅:

so, an *actual* joke!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am
Mr. Pumpy:

@coel...hanging in. Everything was different, and then it got different again! How about you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34am
Mr. Pumpy:

If you can call it that. An attempt...is what I'm comfortable with tagging it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am
coelacanth∅:

yeah kinda the same. the shit was hitting the fan, then some other shit hit some other fan and made the first shit hitting the first fan hit that fan really hard.
big mess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am
Handy Haversack:

Oh, that?

Well, the schtick is that each (ADORABLE) dog is on a 24-hour countdown clock to DOOM. Adopting a dog is super expensive ($5K?) because none of them are actually available -- just physically or digitally borrowed beloved pets. But you, the "mark" or "rube," don't know that. You think that when that clock hits zero, it's off to the axe shed for Mr. Puppy (there it is!).

But buying a dog another hour or even 10 or 20 minutes is pretty reasonable -- and under each crate's picture on your monitor, the red digits continue to count down and flash and FLASH.

I think we'd be PRINTING money for any nonprofit that really wants to commit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am
Handy Haversack:

@coela: that sounds shitty. Sorry, friend.

Lotta fans and shit flying around these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am
coelacanth∅:

i'm a non-profit, apparently; wanna print some money for me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am
Handy Haversack:

I like to think the music selection is live but the typing preprogrammed. MYSTERY.
  12:43am
JakeGould:

@Longitude: A few have. Depends on gear and setup speed. This kind of all dropped on everyone. Last Monday I was casually talking to a local cafe staff about how I am working from home because of this so “Ha! Ha! I’ll be in here more…” The next Monday they have closed and hope to reopen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am
coelacanth∅:

Handy, rich's comments are all algorithm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am
Mr. Pumpy:

@Handy...I'd like to expand on that. Due to the indecisiveness of your tagging the potential sucker, I'd like to name them Mark O'Rubio. You good with that?
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:45am
Ken From Hyde Park:

There should be a contest at the county fair where the 4-H kids get a bicycle pump and a squirrel carcass and then race to get them inflated.
  12:45am
rich:

coel if that were true i would respond much faster
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am

@Ken...it can be done in an elimination type setting and be known a the Rodent Round Robin. Are foot pumps allowed?

It's a city in Ventura County, California, somewhere between Thousand Oaks and Fillmore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am
Mr. Pumpy:

@Jake...the sad part is I just took in a couple of vinyl albums ordered months ago, but I have too much on the line right now to spend more. The ripple effects of this will be brutal. I can throw a few bucks somewhere I guess. This sucks.

Of course, what you say makes a lot more sense.

  1:42am
JakeGould:

@rich: Food trucks should be fine depending on location. The taco trucks I know of are still doing business. But as I have said elsewhere, it seems that Asian owned businesses are scared of racist backlash. Chinese take out places have just closed overnight near me. Even some 99 cent stores. The world is getting very weird.

Jeez, other than walking up and down the block tonight to try to pinpoint where what sounded like a really nasty couple fight was coming from, I didn't go outside at all today.

We did order in tonight and maybe will do so again tomorrow before the local places have to close. While I keep cooking and freezing stuff.

There was a potentially ugly domestic incident at a local bus stop. I thought a real scummy middle-aged drunk was harassing a teenage girl so I tried to intervene. Instead it ended up being a scummy middle-aged couple that endlessly gets drunk, endlessly fights and the guy chased me 1/2 way down the block when I tried to see what was happening. That has not happened to me in decades.

@Fox: RIGHT? 100 percent agree! Dang. Another one that made me switch back to this tab with a "What is THIS?!"!
  1:52am
JakeGould:

Yeah, young like the time I was chased for a block by a pack of stray dogs when I was 11 and walking home from school. Or young like when Hymie — the high functioning old guy who made grocery deliveries with an old school baby carriage — threw redeemable bottles at me and friends when we came too close to him. Or when “Disco Freddy” (a neighborhood boardwalk character) chased us down the boardwalk because we were riding bikes near him doing his “act.” The act was him winding up the crowd and jumping over a small grocery bag.

Anyway, it did make me feel young! So yeah… Thanks!

FWIW, even museums that don’t have formal online content for times like this have great archives and audioguides to their exhibitions. Like I was looking forward to seeing this “Vida Americana: Mexican Muralists Remake American Art, 1925–1945” exhibit but now online is the only way: whitney.org...

In NYC it is deathly quiet. The only place I walked past that had music playing — I mean this is a voluntary “stay at home” thing; not stop listening thing — was an Italian Social Club blasting pretty decent 1980s and 1990s pop in their parking lot.
