Andrew Cuomo has been amazing. So different than the clowns at the state level in Texas. But at least our cities are all run by responsible democrats who base their decisions on statistics and facts and not what their God tells them. @EarlyMorninginSeoul Elevator to the Gallows is magic! I think Criterion has an extra feature interview with louis malle, and a short clip of Miles improvising the score while watching a screening of the film. So so good.

Yo, Sheila! Sublime show a toujours. Did you know that at 7pm tonight here in NYC there will be 2 minute pause “to give doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, grocery store workers, restaurant workers, truck drivers, sanitation workers, friends, neighbors and colleagues a two-minute round of applause for their essential work.” Much like what was done in UK this week.

re: Truffaut on the Criterion Channel ... I highly recommend "Two English Girls." I think it is lesser known and has been difficult to see in the past. It's based on a novel by the same author who wrote the novel "Jules and Jim." In this case it's one man involved with two sisters. It is as effortless and relaxed and engaging and brilliant as only the greatest masters can create (MHO of course).

Not the Criterion Channel, but I also highly recommend these more lightly regarded films from Truffaut ... 1) "Small Change" - episodic film about children's lives in a rural French town, who are by turns charming and (occasionally) cruel. Also 2) "Fahrenheit 451" which a lot of people (even Truffaut) seem not to like, but I think it is one of the best dystopian/science fiction films ever. Maybe Truffaut's discomfort with the material led to its one-of-a-kind cold, detached and awkward feel? Nah, it's Truffaut, that had to be intentional.

@RomanDogBird @5:21: I think it's very much worth watching. It's extremely well made and acted in the cold style I mentioned. If nothing else, there's Bernard Herrman's unsettling opening theme (in 7/4 time), spotting several special effects shots achieved by filming in reverse, finding another actor besides Julie Christie playing a dual role, and realizing the importance of apples. By the way, the weird vehicle that the "firemen" ride in the beginning is a modified camera crane truck.
