3:06pm listener Phillip in the bronx:

there was quite a skirmish at my local western beef supermarket people were refused to be let in because they weren't wearing mask & gloves
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm WoodsOfNH:

Oh man, I am SO ready for some Ravioli audio.
Avatar 3:07pm Marcel M:

Hey Olivia, hey all
  3:07pm P-90:

Avatar 3:09pm Chud:

I needed a laugh the other day, so I made some cajun linguine mp3s to use as notification/ringtone sounds. Now unknown number SMS spam is 1000x funnier. Thanks, Olivia and Nick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm mrdonutsu:

Is that Mark E. Smith?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Richard S:

What's this - has Vocal Fry started early?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm mariano:

mrdonutsu: Was wondering the same thing.
  3:10pm sufferwords:

guess it’s suddenly become bongthirty
3:10pm listener phillip in the bronx:

I was price gouged into buying a mask so I could enter and buy food. $15 dollars for a mask.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm WoodsOfNH:

Mask makes sense. Gloves? They're almost impossible to get.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Richard S:

You could have probably made several for that much, Philip
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm chresti:

Haha, chipped beef on white bread aka shit on a shingle, @pantz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm coelacanth∅:

sounds like there's a little arrangement between the market owner and the mask seller
  3:13pm ?:

is that M.E.S ranting?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm chresti:

The market should supply gloves if they require customers to wear them.
3:14pm listener phillip in the bronx:

what's worse! shelves were empty I walked out with almost no food at all. this massive supermarket and shelves are empty. one potato soup is tonights dinner:(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm pantz:

@chresti I'm very familiar with it. Dad was in the military and grew I liking to it. That and Spam. Blech!
  3:14pm sufferwords:

you all have heard me play jews harp- every single one of you- i’m not a fabulist- the truth is the truth- how is this possible- i guarantee it’s true
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Otis Fodder:

Hi Olivia and Ravioli Renegades!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm mariano:

Oh it says it's Mark E Smith in the comments. chresti - my supermarket has boxes of latex gloves and dispensers of hand sanitizer at the entrance.
  3:15pm Toothgrinder Tom:

It sounds like Mark E. Smith but really it could be anyone from the Midlands region of the U.K.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm chresti:

I believe you, sufferwords, thank you.
  3:16pm Toothgrinder Tom:

What is Western beef and isn’t all beef Western by definition?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Handy Haversack:

Glad to have M. E. Smith confirmation!

I really, really like Yuliyana Krivoshapkina!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Handy Haversack:

Local supermarket, @Toothgrinder T.
  3:18pm Toothgrinder Tom:

Ah delectable Spam, how I love you. Who’s with me?
  3:19pm flashbazbo:

I’m gonna make my own mask tomorrow? Really? Every time I think of it my mind gets paralyzed.
Avatar 3:19pm StringOFperils:

Please don't hate me: re. wearing gloves as a precaution >
Studies suggest that corona viruses (including preliminary information on the COVID-19 virus) may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days.
  3:19pm Toothgrinder Tom:

@Handy do they sell more than beef?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Handy Haversack:

They do, though I have never actually shopped at one -- it's not *quite* local enough. Can kind of paddle to one, but landing would be a little gross.
Avatar 3:26pm Martinibomb:

Hey Olivia and fellow listeners
Avatar 3:26pm Chud:

@string I'm with you. I live in rural Maine, and I've been gloving up every time I go to the store.
Avatar 3:28pm StringOFperils:

@Chud > I have to be careful about being a downer in here, because that is NOT cool. But I want everyone to be healthy, and know the deal. Fore-warned is fore-armed.
  3:29pm Dylanna Hell:

I loved dumama & kechou, and all of this! So good to hear!
Avatar 3:30pm Chud:

@string, I agree. We've been playing catch-up since we can't see the consequences of our actions for 2 weeks...
  3:30pm steveL:

“The dough is the radio “, ala Cypress Hill. Now in my head.
Avatar 3:30pm StringOFperils:

great show, btw. so lucky to have WFMU
Avatar 3:32pm βrian:

Seems like G-Love should be getting more air play.
Avatar 3:32pm StringOFperils:

the surfaces include the gloves themselves also. Wear once and dispose in a contained place and/or wash them
3:32pm listener phillip in the bronx:

so where is Olivia broadcasting from??? her bedroom? kitchen? Therese was broadcasting from her bathroom last week
Avatar 3:32pm StringOFperils:

ok. now I will shut up and listen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Andrew Waterloo:

Yah.. you should shed the clothes you where after going out in public. Don't shake them because that will make the droplets airborne.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm coelacanth∅:

SoP i think no one hates you! but the thing about gloves is -whatever the truth is about how long it persists on what surfaces (it's different for all surfaces) gloves are just another set of skin. if you're wearing gloves and you touch something with a virus on it then touch your face, your steering wheel, your shopping bag, your dog, whatever the result is the same as if you were not wearing gloves.
the practical thing to do is to wash your hands upon leaving the store and wipe down everything from the store with a 10% bleach solution (or alcohol) before proceeding toward home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm olivia:

i'm still broadcasting from wfmu's studio, philip in the bronx! part of the small skeleton crew still allowed in the building
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Richard S:

Thanks, Olivia! Have to keep the building safe and secure!
  3:34pm passiflora:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm coelacanth∅:

...you could use disposable gloves, but you'd still have to disinfect everything the gloves touched.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm pantz:

@olivia would you consider yourself a femur, tibia or maybe even a rib?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm coelacanth∅:

...in my opinion it might as well be your hand. (unless you have abrasions on your hands)
3:36pm listener phillip in the bronx:

WOW olivia you've got GUTS! but your at least wearing a mask in studio:) right? and don't forget the purple gloves:-)
Avatar 3:37pm StringOFperils:

coelacanth∅:..I know. I just don't want to be a buzzkill. The whole think sucks, needless to say. Staying isolated is the best strategy. Let's talk about....anything else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm ParUbi:

Beatriz Ferreyra is so brilliant
3:40pm listener phillip in the bronx:

OK shoes for potato soup with diced carrots & onions with parsley
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm WoodsOfNH:

@Chud Where do you live? We have a house down in Lamoine but decided to stay here in NH for a bunch of reasons. Kinda wish I was up there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Threemoons:

Good afternoon, fellow sound pasta participants.
  3:44pm Toothgrinder Tom:

To be honest I can’t even eat much at the moment due to free-floating anxiety.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Handy Haversack:

@StringOFperils: If you like Bruno Schulz, check out Marcel Schwob (e.g., The King in the Golden Mask). Kind of a link in the Poe-Borges-Bolano chain.
Avatar 3:46pm Chud:

@Woods I'm in Castine, care taking a place for the winter (turning into spring/summer?)
Avatar 3:47pm StringOFperils:

@Handy..I'll put Marcel Schwob on my list. I still haven't read Bolano either, although I am aware of his rep. Patti Smith loves that guy's stuff. I don't know about Schwob at all. I'll have to live to be 250 years old to get through all the reading I should do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm WoodsOfNH:

@Chud It's a nice place to be.

I don't know why I didn't glom onto this station years ago. I'm an idiot.
Avatar 3:52pm Chud:

@woods, yeah, it's pretty nice, but I worry about the elder population. I go shopping for a few people to limit their exposure, but the virus is definitely in the area. Medical care isn't robust here. Very food secure, though! I pulled some mussels from the river for dinner at low tide
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Handy Haversack:

OK, pals. I am going to go be in the sun for a bit. See you all later.

Thanks, Olivia. Sounds great! Thanks so much for all!
Avatar 3:53pm βrian:

Well, get your glomming gloves on! (tee hee)
Avatar 3:54pm StringOFperils:

bye Handy. thx for the lit tip :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm WoodsOfNH:

@Chud Yes. I mean, for us there's the hospital in Ellsworth and also in Bar Harbor. Both tiny. That was definitely one of the factors.

Mussels!! Dang, I'm so jealous. Really missing the seafood.

Speaking of, I read that seared scallops with a light white wine tarragon cream sauce, paired with Sancerre, is good for fighting off the virus. The site seemed very reputable.

To me, anyway.

  4:35pm JakeGould:

@Carmichael: Thanks! I assume they work, unlike the ones the feds sent to New York — and a few other states — that were broken on arrival. It’s like selling someone a car with no engine and then them saying, “Oh! We sent you the car… But the engine is a completely different thing.”

  4:45pm JakeGould:

@βrian: What NY State order? We’re all supposed to stay at home and work from home and non-essential businesses must close. The only difference today is that Cuomo said this needs to be in effect until the end of April instead of mid-April as he said last week.
  4:47pm JakeGould:

In NYC though I expect a cluster of cases to form in the Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods of Borough Park and Williamsburg. They consistently avoid any orders from the local government to stay apart from each other and few to none are wearing face masks.
  4:48pm JakeGould:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Threemoons:

Amazing ethereal set today.
Avatar 5:16pm ranjit:

@mariano i had the same thought!
Avatar 5:16pm Franco Twinkie:

Thank you Jake. To bad there is no express bus to the here after that all these screwballs can get on at The Port Authority bus station and all sing camp songs on the way to the promise land.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm mariano:

One of my favorite riffs of all time, ranjit.
Avatar 5:19pm northguineahills:

@ParUbi: play the parakeet blues!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm chris:

Avatar 5:21pm Chud:

@mariano & ranjit have you ever seen the BBC comedy short ADBC?
Avatar 5:21pm Chud:

Avatar 5:23pm ranjit:

Thanks, Chud - I didn't know about that!

In turn, have you seen Mr Show's "Jeepers Creepers"?
Avatar 5:24pm Chud:

An absolute classic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm ParUbi:

@NGH-- that's Kuaile, the outgoing one.
Avatar 5:31pm northguineahills:

I never buy meat at the grocer (ok, very rarely), but it's the only thing well stocked (that and most produce).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm WoodsOfNH:

I thought vodka wasn't strong enough to make hand sanitizer ?

@WoodsOfNH: Now Everclear, is a different matter....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm chresti:

Thanks Olivia! Have to go outside for a bit, see you all soon!

i’ve been eating a lot of canned soup for the past few months but now because of hoarding, there is a 2 can limit at my stop & shop but i’m like goddamnit soup hoarding is my norm???? now i have to actually cook something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm chris:

60% - 120 proof or higher for ethanol, iirc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm mariano:

Chud: No, I didn't know about that one, thank you! Ditto on the Mr Show version. There's also Muppet Christ Superstar.

Take care chresti.

I would like to know how to roast a broccoli. I try now and then, but every time i try to make roasted broccoli or cauliflower it's a disaster.
Avatar 5:38pm Chud:

What's your technique, Ranjit?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

queems: as noted many times before, you could teach people how to do this! :)
  5:44pm queems:

@granny they haven’t gotten wise to my fancy feast hoarding yet. if my cat doesn’t eat, nobody eats.
Avatar 5:46pm northguineahills:

@queems: I've been making soup from scratch. Now off for a walk, and when I get back, I'm making mashed potato and huitlacoche tacos!
Avatar 5:46pm Chud:

For Cauliflower I preheat at 350 with the baking dish/pan inside to get warm. Roughly cut the cauliflower into ~3cm cubes. When the oven's hot, take out the pan and add 2 spoonfuls of oil and the cauliflower and a pinch of salt & pepper (or/and tumeric, cumin, cayenne, etc) and roast for 7 mins. Stir it around, 7 mins, repeat until golden. If you like garlic, throw it in roughly chopped during the last 7 mins
  5:47pm queems:

@northguineahills i envy people who enjoy cooking! have a good walk!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm WoodsOfNH:

Olivia, have you ever heard of the artist OUZKXQLZN? She's right up your alley. Plays cello, guitar, and samples...then samples and modifies it when playing live. I think she's on Bandcamp.
Avatar 5:49pm northguineahills:

@queems: it's been like a food network kitchen challenge, lack of ingredients, and my roommates moved out w/ most of the kitchenware. But I make it work, like my curried-Mexican udon I made the other night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm olivia:

never heard of them but will look up! Thankks WoodsofNH!
Avatar 5:49pm northguineahills:

Oh, happy thanks, Olivia!
Avatar 5:50pm Franco Twinkie:

ranjit, pre-heat oven at 350. Cut the florets away from the stalk. In a bowl make a mixture of butter, olive oil, minced garlic, salt and pepper. Slop the florets around in the mixture, Put it in a baking dish, place in oven. stir every 10 minutes for 30 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake until melted. Done!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm RomanDogBird:

Ooh, just seeing the animated logo on the playlist now, I like it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm olivia:

that's what I do, Franco Twinkie, without the garlic / cheese today.
Avatar 5:53pm Franco Twinkie:

No Cheese!?!
Avatar 5:55pm βrian:

I have about 12 pounds of vinyl and about 600 pounds of cookware. I'm done with moving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm WoodsOfNH:

Cheese sort of doesn't work if you want soy on it.
  5:55pm cooking show?:

@ranjit: peel the tough skin of the broccoli stalks with a paring knife - you can slice and prepare the stalks just like the florets - or just eat raw - very tasty

<<I glommed on to WFMU in 2004 realizing that the playlists were all mostly NO celebrity rock star stuff (I would in the 1980s haul my Canon VHS HI-FI 1/2 inch @high speed and radio tuner) in my car and plan 3 day trips around the Central US states w/college radio to find and collect such music). Lawrence, KS. & Kansas City, MO.wound being my favorites for radio & live music. When I started using the internet in 04' I immediately found friendship in Frank O`Toole ,Liz Berg, and Irene Trudell and other listeners starting every Monday morning. WOW!
