If you want to explore what’s happening on the radio here are some tips (as promised!):

* Radio.Garden - let’s you go around a globe choosing local stations. While there’s a lot out there, it’s also a little limited and heavy on religious stations in many South America and African countries.

* Tune In, Radio.net, etc- there are quite a few websites that house databases of streamable radio shows from around the world. More there then Radio.garden, but you often need to be specific about what you’re looking for

* My prefered method of seeking out new stations is to pick a location and language and just start searching.

* WebSDR - various frequencies you can access from your browser

* Broadcastify - a collection of marine, police, etc transmissions from around the world that you can access online

Hello Adriene...thanks for continuing to turn out the amazing content! I hope you and yours are weathering this storm as well as can be expected.

Is that the same one that ripped through here last night that left us back in winter temperatures?

in the middle of nowhere (read mongolian steppe), i once saw a guy walking with a 'no smoking orchestra'-t-shirt...exhilarating

World-weary reflections on money, with the pong of onions and vodka on the breeze. What could be better?

Adreine, is this your commentary on the Fed buying junk bonds today?

When I was little, I didn't understand money but now it makes total cents.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm

That's why it's called currency, because it's now.

Gold is on the rise now, but silver and bitcoin are still down. People always want a "ground" for money, but why should that exist?
Avatar 6:18pm
ottovonbqe:

One good thing about money is that it can solve many interpersonal problems, especially between people who possess unequal amounts of it.

Astonishingly crazy day. Glad to finally hear something else ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm
Handy Haversack:

@radioronan: If you had been looking at the Green St. corner store a half hour back, you could have seen me come to a sudden stop to avoid coming closer than one Joey Ramone unit to this nice older fellow who lives on my block, dropping one of the 4 12 packs of PBR I was carrying, shooting cans of beer out on to the sidewalk, and then kind of dodging and leaping and ducking and apologizing in my crappy Spanish as he and a yuppie dog walker all brought cans of beer back to me.

Doing my part to keep the neighborhood capitalized and working together!

Also, we were menaced while walking in the bike lane by a dude in a Tesla!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm
ultradamno:

Great YMO track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm
Handy Haversack:

Cheers, Carmichael. Thanks for doing it. Raising a glass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm

Ah yes, the Joey Ramone Unit overshoot. Gravity, money, inevitability, and then balance. The universe is unfolding as it should.

He he. Me and a friend have been doing porch shots of Jameson. We can somehow make it work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm
Handy Haversack:

For your sake, Carm, I am picturing a shot the size of a porch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm
radioronan:

@handy oh no! I'm glad there are still some neighborly values happening out there. Yes - I noticed a couple of weeks ago the drivers are much more menacing. Be sure to let that 12 pack rest a bit before popping open. Dont recommend a pbr shower.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm

very nice, carmichael!

tesla drivers are probably pretty bent by the price of gas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm
StringOFperils:

What's with that anyway, the driving thing? I keep seeing the same behaviours in Toronto (when I venture outside, that is). It's weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm
Handy Haversack:

@radioronan -- way ahead of you. New 12ers are wiped down with bleach solution and then confined to a holding area before being released to the general population.

In the middle of it, though, I did have this vision you stepping up and saying, "Oh, you must be Handy Haversack!"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm
Mr. Pumpy:

Handy, I like that unit of measure It gives a several extra inches for safety's sake. I once came within zero JRUs with Joey himself. He just came bopping out of nowhere and we did a close dance. It was out front, not on the floor. Oh...those were the days...when Joey was alive and we could all *get close*.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm
StringOFperils:

Joey probably washed his hands 17 times after that, all the same.

Hi Adriene! Love this episode, and David Graeber's words.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm

@String...either you're aware of Joey's germaphobia or you currently have a camera on me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm
listener 126464:

Thank you Adriene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm
Handy Haversack:

Heh. Joey'd be lucky to get Mr. P germs!

God, I got drunk when he died. Was not prepared for that.

Adriene, I have been loving the show tonight! I am trying to convince Kate to share some stuff with you from a people's theater collective she is facilitating that has had to move to online meetings. Their topic is "Home," so this is all making stuff pretty interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm

Joey's OCD was off the charts. Quite a character.

@castor - the David Graeber stuff is from Promises Promises: A History of Debt

Funny, I have putting together a presentation on the history of rent strikes in NYC and I've just been writing about the one in 1907-08 that happened in response to the Panic which JP Morgan solved with his money. Also doing my project as it relates to the crisis today.

Thanks so much.

Radio Garden really is an interesting app/site. Also has an advantage over some other apps since there aren't near as many 30sec ads before you can hear the station

@handy ha! I was out there earlier before the sun broke through. Im glad you able to salvage the goods. I did see some guy tossing around a bottle of whiskey while walking down manhattan ave. But I didnt think he was you. Handy wouldn't be so reckless..?
