It's hard to find a comfortable mask. I ordered one from Etsy that looks nice but it really started to hurt my ears after standing in line for an hour. And there's the problem of glasses fogging up.

@melinda put a tissue on the bridge of your nose - www.forbes.com...
Avatar 4:54pm
TDK60:

Hi Melinda. I heard the that leaving a residue of soap on your glasses or goggles (after washing) can prevent fog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm
David Dichelle:

TDK60: It is a really good question and I'm not sure if there is a good answer. I'm also not sure if regulations should be relaxed just yet, but there is a lot of strategizing involved.

Mask off, hand sanitizer applied (I'll let the kids do the grocery sterilization, they are much more thorough (or, put another way, aghast when I do it...).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm

@melinda: I know about glasses fogging up (no mask here, but a WFMU bandana that is probably not made of organic cotton)
@Mark Hurst: You're posting a link to Forbes??? Is that a trick test?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
David Dichelle:

My daughter has been sewing masks for all of us, doing a great job, didn't even fog up my glasses. Getting used to wearing one is another matter, of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
Mark Hurst:

@fred it's kinda clickbaity, yes, but basically says (1) put tissue on the bridge of your nose to minimize fogging and (2) maybe try washing lenses with soap.
Avatar 5:01pm
TDK60:

I've been glad it's a chilly spring in NYC. Wearing a mask is easy. When it gets warm...

Avatar 5:07pm
TDK60:

fred- may depend on the type of soap-- perfumy may irritate?

I often use dishwashing soap to clean my glasses anyway, always a good idea.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:09pm

Yeah, not looking forward to wearing masks in hot weather.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm

The soap residue trick did work for me, for a time. The effect does wear off (dry off) after a while.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:12pm

I find that clamping the mask on the bridge of my nose with my glasses, helps the fog problem.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:13pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm
melinda:

I'll try the tissue trick, maybe securing the mask with the glasses will help too. I usually wash them with dish soap but it seems like residue would make things blurry, like when they're dirty. Worth a try though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
Jeff Golick:

I remember Under Acme, @doc. Can't recall who I might've seen; my main memory is that the acoustics were terrible down there. Possibly wrong about that, tho.

I'm working on growing my beard to catch Dave Sewelson (I know odds are slim).

Jeff: Hard to say, he's had so many.

@Jeff, don't recall bad acoustics there, but again, with 6 people there, nothing to get in the way of the sound.

Actually, just have 9 days left to furlough. I'll have to be presentable again when I go back to work.

Dean:

I remember hearing and feeling the subway rolling by below Fez.

In these parts, there's Yoshi's, a nice venue with good sound, but the trains race closely by, horns blasting.

Yoshi's is pretty famous (not been there, though, have only made it to the west coast once, trip to Frisco).

I expected this would flush Doug out of hiding.

This is an interesting interpretation

Dean:

The Yoshi's in Oakland, Jack London Square, is the now enduring venue, but it had an earlier incarnation in Berkeley (or North Oakland near Berkeley). For a few years there was site in SF, too, though it closed a while ago. I heard Electric Masada and Nanci Griffith (not on the same bill, of course) at the SF site, many groups at JLS, including three nights, two shows each, of Braxton's Ghost Trance Music shows.

Dean:

Speaking of Braxton!

Dean:

In fact, '97 was the year GTM had its run at Yoshi's.

My Under Acme story-I'm generally notone to sit still at a concert, tend to bop my head, up and down, side to side. As the performing space was empty, the band hadfew other people to look at but me. At one point, while bopping side to side, the whole band made fun, bopping their heads side to side in imitation. I've mentioned it to some of them at reunion concerts the Micros have done in recent years, and they remember it (and crack up).

Put a Ran Blake box set in my Amazon cart earlier (still trying to keep my record buying hiatus intact, though, so haven't hit checkout...)

@doctorjazz: I guess your cart list will be longer than your beard by the time this is over. Maybe it will get Sewelson worthy
