Hello Jason and listeners (though I'm not hearing anything right now)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am
fred:

I hear something, but is it the show or the bot? Sounds more like the latter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am
fred:

Here's the bed music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
fred:

I can hear you
Avatar 11:15am
Jason Elbogen:

Hey, Fred, do you know this cassette? Came out on a French label, apparently, but sounds like a female Jad Fair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am
fred:

No, but in 1985 I wasn't listening to anything interesting
Avatar 11:29am
Jason Elbogen:

Fred--what kind of music were you orignally into? (just curious)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am
fred:

In 1985? I don't remember, probably some mainstream stuff popular at the time: U2, The Pogues, Depeche Mode...

Dave In St Albans UK:

Hi Jason. Other than 60's pop I was into mostly head expanding prog rock, reggae, jazz and experimental stuff in the 70's. Nowadays I listen to music without any labels. Anything goes for me. No musical prejudices although I try to avoid main stream pop stuff. Sheena does the job as far as radio goes. :-)

I like this track (no surprise there)

Hello! I just remembered I'd occasionally queue up first couple tracks of the 'Great Victory Life' DJ Premium before I arrived at work on my commute, it was good mood setting...
Avatar 11:58am
Jason Elbogen:

Wow, one of my old premiums, thanks. Actually, this year's School premium is pretty good, I think, but who the heck knows how long it will take to get mailed- out ):
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm
fred:

Yeah, especially as the orange one seems intent on shutting down USPS for good

Oh boy, one of karate bakabon EP goes over five grand st discogs...

Hey hey all! Pretty funny, that Sister Maria track covering (ripping off?) “Release Me”. Even nuns were not immune to the charms of Englebert.

wizard frog:

here's a dumb segue - Speaking of violence against minorities... I saw 'Killing of a Chinese Bookie' yesterday, interesting film...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
fred:

@Jason: did you find what The Chief has to say about the virus since last week?
Avatar 12:09pm
Mr Fab:

Thanks, Dave!

Fred, yeah, don’t have much use for that stuff from the ‘80s, but as soemone raised in an Irish American community, I still have a soft spot in my whisky-soaked heart for the Pogues, even if I don't pull out their stuff to play anymore. Maybe I should? Any tracks that would sound good in the Sheena stream?

Hi Jason! Hi fellow listeners!

There's the weird outsider rapper who's a bit of a meme, Viper, made a track taking credit for the virus: I Did Tha Wuhan Coronavirus Outbreak / but then he did the followup 2 weeks later: Wen I Said "I Did Tha Wuhan Coronavirus Outbreak" I Didnt Thank It'd Com 2 Dis

Jason Elbogen:

Fred - nothing good, unfortunately. he wrote that his younger brother died recently (he didn't say from what, though).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
fred:

@Mr Fab: I still love their "Rum, Sodomy and the Lash". I actually saw them open for U2 (along with UB40) in 1987 maybe. I have a sore memory about them too: I showed up at my fave pub one day instead of class and they were out of Guinness. Turns out The Pogues had showed up after a show and played informally most of the night before. And I missed it
Avatar 12:16pm
wizard frog:

They drank all of the next days' Guinness?!
Avatar 12:17pm
Mr Fab:

Bummer, Fred! Yep, that was their classic album. You can always count on bands playing in local Irish pubs to play any number of songs off it.

Diggin real hard this ‘80s NYC-style punk-funk going on now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
fred:

@wizard frog: I guess the people who were lucky enough to be there helped. But my understanding is that they left when the beer ran out

Sonic Protest was canceled four days into the festival this year. Big blow for them, but from what I heard from them they think they'll be able to survive
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
fred:

From the sound of it, it might be from the workshops Anton Mobin did in schools, having kids build instruments (boxes with springs, bells, stuff and basic electronics)
Avatar 12:45pm
wizard frog:

Interesting track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm

Looks like I was wrong, that was earlier than Anton's workshops

My Chinese wife makes me do that too...
