Mikko H. Haapoja: Traditional and Experimental Fiddle and Soundscapes from Finland
Listen to this show:
Pop-up player!
Rob met Helsinki-based musician / audio-artist Mikko H. Haapoja to record a session and chat at WFMU this past October. Mikko performed a variation of his solo piece Unheard Landscapes, combining soundscapes and electronics with performance on jouhikko, a Finnish traditional fiddle. (Mikko's debut audio/visual piece from the Unheard Landscapes project, Our Shorelines, has just been released - hear it and see it at http://mikkohaapoja.net/solo/.) Mikko also co-leads the offbeat folk / rap / electronic ensemble Haapoja & Illmari Kollektiivi among many other projects. We'll hear all about it and hear Mikko's WFMU performance on this week's show!
Special thanks to engineer Dave S. and board ops Ruth and Olivia!
