Someone should get to work making WFMU masks. Maybe Greg, Mayuko, and others from the Usual Gang of Artists could donate some custom designs. It’s clear at this point that we’re gonna be wearing masks for a while, folks. Masks will be fashion.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Gaylord Fields:

@Joe B: Peggy Lee is sneaky that way. For example, her version of the Ray Davies song “I Go to Sleep” may be my favorite one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Spinning Giant:

@Gaylord - agreed...Soooo....query: Peggy Lee, greatest cover artist ever...? Let the debate begin...

thanks for the music Ira, it's fun to hear you (and picture your clip-board holding producer gesturing obscurely at you!) oh!, an opportunity for me to mention Tim Hardin: her 7" of "Misty Roses"/"It'll Never Happen Again" is beautiful, too

@?: I don't have a lot of time for the comments, a lot of work here. So on first glance, I thought you wrote "gesturing obscenely."
Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Ira:

@Greg Motolla: Lolita Ya-Ya = better than Batman. Bold statement!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm Spinning Giant:

Yes! Beach Boys ripping it... I bet you have a killer version of this up your sleeve, Ira!!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Gem Spa has officially called it quits; consider it a Coronavirus victim all things considered. ny.eater.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Chop Scott:

Incredible Ira! Thanks!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Gaylord Fields:

@Ira: Quality over quantity. Thanks for the reality check.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm mariano:

Hard to imagine Lou Reed surfing. Yeah Jake, read about Gem Spa earlier, really sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm JOE FROM DC:

I have heard of, but had rarely actually heard, the Fugs. Now I think I may have to embark on a quest to acquire everything by them, because Nothing is the best thing I heard today, even better than Bobby Sherman on the 70s station!
  10:58pm JakeGould:

Well, will be 100% honest here as a teenager in the 1980s who served Knishes, Cherry Lime Rickeys, Buttermilk and Sanka (many times all the same order!) while listing to the Police on my Sanyo walkman knock off… Gem Spa was a very light shadow of what it once was.

It used to be every corner store owned by a Jew in NYC served egg creams and related stuff… That slowly faded away in the 1980s and is gone now.

I appreciate their desire to keep the history alive but it never felt right in recent years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm Parq:

Joe from DC, here's a good place to start:

@Joe from DC - you will not regret it

  11:00pm Mfg:

Are you curating the ads too!? Lovin the turtles
  11:01pm JakeGould:

My God those old ladies who yelled at me for making Sanka wrong back in the day; sorry I put the Sanka in after poring the hot water into a styrofoam cup. God bless you all in your fur coats drinking that on a hit summer day. What a world that was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

When that Pepsi ad was new I thought the slogan was SO clever - "beats the others cold" it's a saying AND Pepsi is literally served cold!
Those were simpler times.
Avatar 11:02pm Michael Shelley:

Feeling thankful for this music. Just had to sit through a "movie" called "Step Sisters"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm mariano:

Eesh, sorry to hear, Michael. Too bad it wasn't "Step Brothers", that had some funny scenes.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm mariano:

Right PJ? All my life I'd heard how horrible it was, then decades ago hanging out with my uncle and some friends I ask "What album is this" (it had been playing a while) and they said TSMR, and I was blown away. I'm glad I got to hear it that way, not knowing who it was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm Scott Williams:

Great show Ira, thanks! And zero dropouts - tho a lot can happen in 3 minutes...

RIP Florian. Years ago, I read an interview with Florian or Ralf, or both, and one of them made the comment that, after seeing the effect that 19th century music had had on Germany in the 20th century, they wanted to remove all drama from their music. They succeeded, and it was beautiful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm Yes:

thank you Ira , Scott and everyone
