I have heard of, but had rarely actually heard, the Fugs. Now I think I may have to embark on a quest to acquire everything by them, because Nothing is the best thing I heard today, even better than Bobby Sherman on the 70s station!

JakeGould:

Well, will be 100% honest here as a teenager in the 1980s who served Knishes, Cherry Lime Rickeys, Buttermilk and Sanka (many times all the same order!) while listing to the Police on my Sanyo walkman knock off… Gem Spa was a very light shadow of what it once was.

It used to be every corner store owned by a Jew in NYC served egg creams and related stuff… That slowly faded away in the 1980s and is gone now.

I appreciate their desire to keep the history alive but it never felt right in recent years.

Right PJ? All my life I'd heard how horrible it was, then decades ago hanging out with my uncle and some friends I ask "What album is this" (it had been playing a while) and they said TSMR, and I was blown away. I'm glad I got to hear it that way, not knowing who it was.

RIP Florian. Years ago, I read an interview with Florian or Ralf, or both, and one of them made the comment that, after seeing the effect that 19th century music had had on Germany in the 20th century, they wanted to remove all drama from their music. They succeeded, and it was beautiful.
