Hello David and fellow travellers.

Later, in '84, I heard a recital by Richard Harvey of Gryphon at Wigmore Hall.

The Police at the Whisky touring the second album: the moment I realized I was growing bored with rock. They were utterly lifeless.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
fred:

@Brian: Your prime minister could learn a lot from France. We should all go back to work, but from home. So only workers are allowed on public transit at rush hour. The trains and buses should only carry 20% of capacity. But there are fewer than usual, to discourage using them. So we should avoid public transit. But not use cars. Use bikes instead, with newly opened bike lanes. But these will be closed if they clog car traffic. And it's only day two

Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
Brian in UK:

fred, yes a lot to learn but how do you teach an arrogant prick with a God given right to be superior. I hope that the new Labour leader can return some semblance of order and be an effective opposition. There must always be a strong opposition. End of rant.
Avatar 4:39pm
northguineahills:

When it was described as a 'sepcial relationship' b/tn the EEUU y RU (US & UK), i didn't think we'd both have like-minded morons as heads of our gov'ts. That said, Boris would be an improvement over here (and that says quite a bit).

You'll be chirping cheerful to know, I'm in no mood to discuss various leaders, at this moment at least, heh...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm
David Dichelle:

TDK: They actually discuss themselves enough so that nobody else has to.
Avatar 5:13pm
TDK60:

You'll be mildly interested maybe: A few years ago a friend called, had a pair of tix for Carnegie Hall. I asked who was playing? The Kazakh symphonic and opera orch. Something like that. Good!
Avatar 5:17pm
northguineahills:

@TDK: I'm still debating whether Duke or Flynt was the leader of GI Joe, but feel like it should of been Lady J.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm
David Dichelle:

TDK: I wonder if that was the same orchestra (with a post-Soviet name).
Avatar 5:18pm
TDK60:

NGH, I could hotly debate that with you IF I knew the first thing @ GI Joe! Hee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm
David Dichelle:

I would have thought that Joe was the leader.
Avatar 5:20pm
TDK60:

David, could be. The name "symphonic and opera orch." rings a bell in my memory gland. They did some symphonic works, Kazakh music, and opera singers did some vocal selections.
🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
WR:

Now you pundits have me looking at wikipedia for GI Joe LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm

TDK: I wonder if they actually did Kuzhamyarov. There are much too few recordings of his work.
Avatar 5:25pm

David I think I have the program around here /somewhere/ but...maybe some other day?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm

Sure, if it ever turns up, let us know.
Avatar 5:33pm
northguineahills:

Part of the reason there are so many spellings of Kazakh names is b/c in the last century, the language went from using Arabic script, to Cryrillic script, and as a few years ago, Latin script. (and I thought transliterating Arabic Ottoman script to modern Turkish Latin script was tough....)
Avatar 5:38pm
TDK60:

NGH: That must've taken a lot re-learning campaigns?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
David Dichelle:

NGH: It's also because there is a different Russian version since Russian doesn't have the sound represented here as Q.
