Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Woo:

E minor is the best chord. This is a pretty Velvety song.
  12:54pm PJ:

Is this a Lewis Allan Reed tribute band?
  12:54pm Amy:

I had to check to see if this was some obscure Lou Reed song.
Avatar 👻 12:56pm David Shortell:

Serious question: Did Gram Parsons get the idea for his band's name from the International Silver String Submarine Band in the 1934 Our Gang short "Mike Fright"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Handy Haversack:

An hour and a half sitting in the car for 20 seconds of action when the street sweeper miraculously came by.

At least 91.9 was coming in like a dream. Great show so far, Joe!

Hey, everyone!
1:02pm Mark on top of Helsinki:

Hi Joe! Just want to thank you for the great set. You and the rest of the FMU team are keeping things normal and COOL! I rented the WBCN documentary, and it was worth every cent. Although I'm too young to remember the history included in it, WBCN was the station of my youth before corporate America tragicallydtragically it. That's why I think WFMU fucking rocks.
1:04pm Mark on top of Helsinki:

Erm, should've read "tragically devoured"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Handy Haversack:

Man, this Exbats album is solid gold top to bottom. Such a great find -- thanks Joe, efd, Todd!

Joe B., I think I mentioned that when I ordered this Exbats CD, they included a second copy, ANOTHER CD, stickers, and a handwritten note. Total class act. Inez for pres!
  1:12pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

Good afternoon to the People’s Champ!
  1:13pm David in London:

Handy, did you have styrofoam cups of coffee and doughnuts and pretend to be on a stake-out?
Avatar 1:14pm Joe B:

nice Handy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm coelacanth∅:

Handy, you might have to take the motor out though so the car's not too heavy for those.
and the battery, the seats, the drivetrain, the gas tank, all the glass and the spare tire...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Handy Haversack:

Laptops and the dog, David. A very Brooklyn stakeout. Another fun part was turning on the car enough to roll up the windows whenever someone without a mask was walking by. Power windows destroyed society.

There. I said it.
Avatar 1:17pm Mister Dobalina:

Best of the Belock 3 hour tour!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm efd:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm nickybones:

damn, i only know the Resonars stuff!
Avatar 1:28pm Joe B:

oh yeah efd! sounds like i gotta do it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Handy Haversack:

I am just shocked the street sweeper came and the parking cops didn't. I assumed this was just to generate ticket revenue. My neighborhood is historically neglected with actual cleaning but very affected by the ASP rules.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Tim 07030:

I too just moved my car for street sweeping (Hoboken edition) for the first time in about 6 weeks. Your show sounded equally good on the road, Joe!

d'oh! -nope, this is live on wfmu!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Mike Sin:

Seeing the Pretty Things for the first time in late '90s was quite an eye-opener. Of course, we were all looking forward to hear their early Fontana hard R&B sides live, but those were records that essentially just captured live performances. But when they performed the SF Sorrow material... wow... they were right on. The layered harmonies and textures were great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm coelacanth∅:

...actually Joe do you know if Dick Taylor was with them on Diane's show?
  1:48pm David in London:

Great live Pretties there. Thanks Joe.

I saw the Holly Golightly/Dan Melchior combo play in Red Bank's Black Cat Records store in 1999. When I mentioned this to her in Belmar two years ago, she had forgotten. She thought I was referring to the Black Cat club in D.C.!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Planet Tyler:

"There's no fire in your kiss" ... that's intense
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm coelacanth∅:

...i've never seen these movies, but songs by the pretty things, incognito (as "electric banana") are in dawn of the dead, green death (doctor who), and what's good for the goose...and apparently some soft-core porn!
Avatar 2:06pm Carmichael:

The Dogg ...
  2:08pm David in London:

Coela, Dr Who and The Green Death was a flashbulb moment of my childhood. It went down in family lore for the giant toxic-pollution created maggots. And later for The Pretty Things. It was the gift that kept on giving...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Mike Sin:

@coelacanth∅: re: "What's Good for the Goose"

The Pretty Things not only provide music, but they appear in the film playing in the club.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Handy Haversack:

Absolutely seminal Dr Who episode. Jon Pertwee will always be my Doctor. Jo Grant! You're too good for him, Jo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm coelacanth∅:

Mike really! now i have to find a clip of that Thanks!

David i confess i've seen only 5-10 doctor who episodes, all within the past 2 years. is green death a feature film?
  2:14pm Dennis Diken:

diggin' it Joe baby!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm coelacanth∅:

(Handy answered that question)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm steveo:

Handy I know a secret about you, and well, now it also applies to me!
  2:19pm David in London:

Coela, no it was a regular weekly transmission. But there was something particularly cold and unsettling about that particular story. History hasn’t been particularly kind to the giant fly effect at the end (1973 effects technology on a budget of £3.47), but as Handy says, it’s still amazingly good overall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm jillydg:

Hi Joe! I kid you not, I was just saying to myself I'm enjoying this show but it is going WAY TOO FAST.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Handy Haversack:

Joe, don't worry -- this time at home has been revealing to those of us who did not value tech updates and staying current as long as we could kludge along enough functionality for regular life -- relying on work and, for you, the station, for having dealt with our needs there. No regrets!

Though I am pretty glad I now have this 50' Ethernet cable that lets me work outside while listening to the show.

Which IS going by way too fast!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm coelacanth∅:

David i'll say i really liked the episodes i've seen (all within the last few doctors though)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Tim 07030:

This is great, but I keep expecting Steve to start singing about baseball!
  2:33pm Bobsmart567:

What Berlin song does this sound like again?
Avatar 2:33pm Carmichael:

I tried to watch Dr. Who, but it never stuck with me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Woo:

Bobsmart, it's Sex (I'm a...) by Berlin. They steal it well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm bobsmart567:

Ah, yes. Thanks, Woo. ...and I agree!
Avatar 👻 2:37pm David Shortell:

Had I not instantly recognized the lyrics, I never would've guessed the Rain Parade were covering that song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Handy Haversack:

The seventies and eighties Dr Who eps. were on our public TV affiliate when I was a kid, and those really were formative for me -- and then I read all the novelizations of them (imported through Seacaucus, the second town in NJ that I knew of, because of the Dr. Who novels!) -- I even spent my woodshop projects building shelves for those books.

I liked the earlier new series, but it got to be a little ... I don't know, high adventure? High drama? For my taste, I guess. At least, I stopped keeping up with it some time before or around Peter Capaldi's taking over the TARDIS.

But Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison is a major touchstone for me, with more attenuated connections fore and aft.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Ike:

I would not have expected to see a Dr. Who discussion here. Used to be my favorite show, all the way up through Peter Capaldi. The writer who took over after that has completely tanked it despite good actors. It's an even bigger, more crazy flaming trainwreck than the end of Game of Thrones.
