Definitely not minty. Lemon lime but I believe they had a few other flavors that came out.

I think it came back like ... ten years ago? And then disappeared again. My only memory of Zima is pounding two of them in a friend's car before an Atlanta Falcons game that he had got us tickets to.

Come here, Jub Jub.
Avatar 🦇 1:02pm
Julie:

yeah most of those kind of things are sweet. I have some kinda sweet malt beverage in my fridge but I forget which kind. not twisted ice tea but something similar
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
coelacanth∅:

"Introduced in 1993, it was marketed as an alternative to beer, an example of what is now often referred to as a cooler, with 4.7–5.4% alcohol by volume.[1] Its production in the United States ceased in October 2008, but the product is still marketed in Japan."
  1:03pm
Mr Nobody:

Ha yes it was definitely a teen/20s drink. One of those "girly beers" it was similarish to Smirnoff Ice and quite a few other sweet malted alcoholic beverages. They go down pretty easy.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:03pm
Handy Haversack:

Ha, coela, with my corner store, you never know -- they might have just found a few cases in the store room and threw them on the shelves!

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:35pm

Oh man. Gotta stiffen both spine and upper lip for this song.

A year or so back (Oct. 2018: day after Nick Cave at Barclays). I officiated a friend's wedding. Another really close friend came back from (Davis) Cali for it. I sang this to him on the karaoke machine as soon as the ceremony was over. Apparently even more arresting than my performance was how passers-by on the Bay Ridge street stopped in awe and terror of what was going on inside ...

This one gets the feelings going.

Thanks Pumpy. i sometimes do. i think i didn't bite for about a week (i forgot to check 1 or 2 days) but i bought yesterday's...only gave them a buck though. i'm a bit apprehensive about artists that try to sound "edgy"...who compare themselves to Tom Waits or Nick Cave or whatever; but i found myself enjoying it about mid-album, from the kitchen -so i got it. i didn't want to spend too much time thinking about it. maybe they should've gotten more for that album, but i'm poor!

@coel my middle son loves the Mexican soda. The Mexxon (what we call the Mexican restaurant in the Exxon) near us sells them and there's always an empty bottle or two on our kitchen counter, 6 inches away from our recycling bin.

Donovan has been on my mind since all of the Pretty Things / Electric Banana tributes (the band was new to me, like so many others here on WFMU, until just a couple of days ago.)
Donovan has been on my mind since all of the Pretty Things / Electric Banana tributes (the band was new to me, like so many others here on WFMU, until just a couple of days ago.)
And, I'd been wondering if there was any Donovan / Mellow Yellow connection (electricAL banana.) SO, "Mellow Yellow" has been on my mind since (along with the soda.) I think yesterday, and maybe some days prior, this soda discussion has been happening. "Fresca", and other obscure beverages -- and I wanted to say "hey, what about Mello Yello?", (the soft drink.) Anyway, have been wondering what came first? Donovan, then Electric Banana, then Mello Yello seems to be the chronological order. Then I wondered (had I wondered before, in my teenage years what "Electrical Banana" meant? I guessed yesterday that i has to be a term for a vibrator, (if I hadn't concluded as much was likely years ago).
Anyway, I'd just been singing "Mellow Yellow" in my head in the shower, we especially liked the "quite right, slick!" part back in the day. Then I read the room and saw Fresca (and Zima, etc. talk again, and had to tell my story).
Thanks again, Julie for exercising my Donovan possession! (thanks for suffering through my boring story, chat. B^)

@coel, it is definitely good for marketing. I usually pay nothing, but the flip side of that is I am often turning friends on to new sounds, going to shows, and buying vinyl. Like my dropping $100+ on that field works vinyl box set. So, it works! And yes, all of those bands then have me on their mailing list.
