Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Jake. Duane Train is staffed with talent.
  10:08am JakeGould:

Hope this doesn’t embarrass Duane, but found this interview with quote that encapsulates it all, “It probably just comes with my namesake. Music was always a huge part of my growing up experience. My father is from Kingston Jamaica and my Mother was from Louisiana. My mother played piano, my Father is a percussionist and choir director. My Sis is a pretty accomplished Gospel and Jazz pianist and singer. My uncle Derrick is a legendary Reggae producer and my Uncle Chester is a world renowned Cabaret performer in the UK. My Father collected a ton of records and there was a lot eclectic music played in the house everything from Bob Marley and Steely Dan, to Andrae Crouch and Vivaldi.I studied the Violin and Trombone from age 5 -16 years old and picked up my music theory there. I also got involved with Deejaying at an early age. I had a radio show on a local community radio station in Lincoln, Nebraska when i was 14 years old and that continued in College. I guess what i'm trying to say is that I was blessed to have a family that exposed me to music at an early age and encouraged me to appreciate all aspects of music to some extent.” discosrevengedallas.blogspot.com...

@Meghan:Thanks,twice,? was I,technical difficulty...Shalom.
  10:17am agav:

not to be a negative Nancy but I wish wfmu could have some real dancehall djays doing real reggae mixes. Jeff Sarge was cool and his historical knowledge is great. and no offense Meghan but reggae is meant to be played a certain way.
Avatar 10:17am prguitar:

Thanks Meghan for the Sarge update, and all of these first light sounds.. I'm a friend of Jeff's and a constant marathon phone room volunteer for him.. imagine we've crossed paths through the years.. glad to be here with you this morning..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Meghan:

prguitar- Good morning! Been Sarge's cohost many many times! So most likely!
  10:20am agav:

the disco party sounds dope. I'll be there for that but I wish the guests djays would treat reggae schoolroom like a dancehall mix. just my opinion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Stanley:

African reggae. Oh yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Stanley:

I saw Alpha Blondy in Switzerland back in the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Meghan:

He's coming up Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Meghan:

agav- a dancehall would be cool, but us fill in dj's aren't that at all! and I like to explore all reggae, not just one type...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Stanley:

More of a schoolroom than a dancehall, eh?
  10:23am ami ad:

@agav:WFMU DJs' do their own thing,on their own shows(even fill ins),as far as I remember Jeffs' show was not much dancehall at all, more of a christian reggae to these ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Meghan:

Like the name says?
  10:24am agav:

I have no objection to hearing different types of reggae. like that African track is dope. as a listener I love hearing tracks I never heard before.

I agree that Jeff Sarge wasn't a party mix djay. but his style still was interesting. it's about keeping a certain vibe. I like hearing reggae music in a certain style. but I'm just one person.

@morphe': Your kid is normal and wants to have nothing to do with you but is trapped.

Home schooling is some bullshit. Not saying there is a better option. But I believe that kids need to not be near their parents when they learn.

Dig this!!
  11:12am JakeGould:

@Meghan: One of the funniest thing I ever heard were two school teachers on an NYC bus talking about their gigs and one said they teach 7th and 8th grade and responded — thick Brooklyn accent — says, “Oh! I feel so sorry for you! They are horrible and the boys smell so bad at that age!”

Hang in there Morphe. Back to “ school” tomorrow. 9 year old is writing a book on gardening. He’s into it. All the other school work is crap. Online lesson in colored light on balloons was so confusing I had to give up and I’m an art teacher!

Anyway I had a brief Drakkar Noir period in H.S. so hey…

@JakeGould:Me too.Nothing these days,deodorant only.
  11:22am JakeGould:

@AmiAd: Ha! I wonder if Drakkar Noir was targeting Jewish teens worldwide? I mean if you look at what is sold at specific chain stores you start to see a pattern.

Anyway, I bough some bootleg hand sanitizer that smells like Jean Nate. All gone now. No more scents.

Thanks for the tunes, Meghan! We are cleaning, moving between inside and out, dealing with the world -- burden lightened by what you're spinning.

Hey, everyone.

(Jake, I had to go to a local Polish pharmacy yesterday -- they have Canadian hand sanitizer in stock!)
  11:30am JakeGould:

@Butterman: Now I am all about showering. When I hear of people’s “struggles” during Coronavirus and saying they haven’t showered I think, “Bullshit! You have never had any real problems and it takes minutes to shower and go on with life. Just clean up and stop wallowing.”

@Handy: Woo! Which brand? “Natural Concepts?” “Perfect Purity?” “Clean Works?” “GelRite?”
  11:30am ami ad:

  11:40am JakeGould:

@Handy: Ha! For some reason that is the one “brand” that all the small pharmacies I have been in carry. Then there are the bootleg brands corner stores carry. But the best consistent source I found in Brooklyn are DII discount stores — there is one on Manhattan Avenue — and they carry either weird Turkish brands of cleaner or “Wish” brand hand sanitzer. Prices are very reasonable and they enforce social distancing and mask wearing in their stores.

DII carries Turkish Windex which is just Windex but when you look at the characters in the Turkish text it’s as if you are losing your mind and language is destroyed.
