Doug Schulkind:

Mary H has kind of adopted Pittsburgh as a second home. At least, as a second creative locus. She has done several residencies with City of Asylum here, and has found herself on the group's advisory board. She has performed in Pittsburgh, in a multitude of contexts 10-12 times over the past few years. It has been a glory.

Is City Of Asylum a venue? I didn't know it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
Doug Schulkind:

City of Asylum is a number of things. At its core, it's an org that offers support (stipend, lodging, etc) to writers in exile from oppressive regimes. Over the years, they have become a beacon of support for creative music, film, poetry and other arts. They purchased a huge space where they present concerts, screenings, readings virtually every night. And they run a small bookshop selling critical works by embattled writers (and others). And they do the most amazing job of development and fund-raising resulting in the almost unbelievable reality that everything they host is FREE. I'm not sure if another organization like it exists elsewhere.

Mix by the amazing Woramon Jamjod, Roulette's tech director, who has been feeding me audio during this lockdown.

If you know Mary (I don't, personally) or can reach her, I am confident she would be a help. I'm pretty sure he has assisted CoA with its music programming.
