Eh. the pops kinda fit. I dig it. But in the 90's I used to hang out my Sunset Park window with an antenna, so my standards are low.

Back in my day, everything was warped and you couldn't hear the signal for the noise and that's how we liked it!

The first time driving south from NYC (I was 24, a few months before moving to the City), I remember getting the WFMU signal on a hill or bridge, and then losing it when going down an incline until somewhere right around Somerset County the signal was all static (I let the static play all the out of Jersey)

@northguineahills - I went to highschool in Sussex County (northern most bit of NJ), and I used to have to drive down from the mountains to Jefferson and just sit in a parkinglot to listen to the radio shows I wanted to.

The icebreaker LP for a lot of people is the Sylvie & Babs Hi-Fi Companion, which is more of the sound-collage material. Staggering work. On the other end of the spectrum is Soliloquy for Lilith, which is mega deep drone. I dig all of it.

The first Automating is one I like to recommend, the series are compilations of tracks from compilations and provide a nice overview of what Stapleton does, S&B and Large Ladies are great for the manic side, Homotopy For Marie and Merzbild Schwet for the darker, could be horror movie scores.

Regarding audio noise on remote DJ audio setups: USB 3.0 devices — not USB 3.1 (aka: USB C) or ThunderBolt 3 — emit radio frequencies that have been known to interfere with Bluetooth devices as well as audio gear. Something about the frequency USB 3.0 literally sends data at. So separating ANY USB 3.0 devices from audio gear as much as possible helps. And even “downgrading” to USB 2.0 by simply using the older cable — and not the USB 3.0 cable with more connectors and blue plastic in the connectors — is enough to eliminate that issue.

Lucky, you fox. By my senior year of HS, all independent and college radio stations near me were bought out Clear Channel, so Arlanta and Athens, GA, were the closest decent stations around at the time. When the signals fade, I got used to white noise (still am). I know the feeling. Finding WFMU before visiting NYC (and moving), was a revalatiom.
