Welcome to another episode of Five Miles To Midnight...
Todays show is named after the Fulu Miziki Kinshasa Music Warriors and the band is featured as the image for todays show - I dig their style and purity - made complete with homemade instruments .. they will feature today along with a whole bunch of curious music - sit back and enjoy, or jump around like a mexi bean with gas ... like Thunderdome - there's NO RULES...
Thanks for hanging out - it's nice to have you here.

Saw Fela at an outdoor show in early 90s. The band played for over 4 hours....similar partner story. Having a cosmic moment in my life, while the person I'm with is going," Hmmph. Can we go now?" That was hard to fend off for 4 hours.
Avatar 8:27pm
The Knave:

Haha - Yeah ... spent 5 hours in Time Bomb records in Japan and drove my partner nuts ... A four hour Fela show WOW !! What a dance party that would have been
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
StringOFperils:

Could have been. Should have been. Oh well. Each song was at least 20-25 minutes long. Lots of dancers (wives?) with the band. The audience was sort of in a big public park...families, accidental attendees...Fela Kuti seemed to feed on the white apathy of it all, smoked a lot of joints, danced, evinced a powerful fuck-you attitude. It was cool. My girlfriend was not cool. So it goes.

The Knave:

It sounds like you were supposed to go to that gig to find out your girlfriend was not cool -- The universe speaking to you ... so to speak..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
StringOFperils:

Yeah, the universe kinda yelled at me and threw me down a staircase. Not the finest period of my existence. Ha ha.
