@Sylvia I'm with you on that, though I still reserve my snobbery where classic rock is concerned. My son's 22 yr old girlfriend listens to classic rock, and I told her I pretty much abhor it (while I was playing The Clash on the CD player). I had to explain to her about there being older music that is worth listening to because it is good, not just because it was old (looking at you, Mellencamp and Seger). Clash = Good, Dave Mathews Band = Lower GI Distress

Iggy said one of his favorite concerts was seeing the Doors at the University of Michigan when "Light My Fire" had just come out, and all these frat bros showed up hoping to hear it, and instead, Jim Morrison came out singing in this Betty Boop voice, mocking them, and the concert was "over" after about a half an hour. @2:15 Mark R: I'm not the biggest McCartney solo fan either, even those two albums I have - band on the run and McCartney II - I find hard to get the point of.
I do have some pleasant childhood memories of No More Lonely Nights, even in Finland you'd see the video from TV (wow, all of TWO channels then!) quite often.
@2:09 northguineahills: dunno anything about Plaid except Not for Threes is a mighty fine album.

Julie don't get mad at me, but your pronunciation of Fältskog was rather cute, almost Danish ;)
Avatar 2:25pm
Julie:

haha yeah I had no idea
Avatar 2:28pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

I guess it'd be pronounced like Feltskoog. Then again, this is from a finnish perspective, Swedish pronciation of their mother tongue is quite different. My swedish is exceptionally bad, should be better as it is our second official language.

I'm no Queen fan, but in spite or because of that I find Paul Rodgers taking over Freddie Mercury's duties very weird.

Queen were quite a band - but sold out to the U.S.megamarket & became irrelevant to my snobbery...

btw, speaking of Plaid, I noticed you have played their Warp labelmates Broadcast sometimes here - did you Julie or anyone ever see them live? I am a latecomer to that party - plenty of chances to have seen them live but back then I ignored them completely.

I didn't. I was late to the Broadcast party.

@2:37 Julie: well sometimes I think I am living in some alternate reality, as I knew nothing about Broadcast, even though i have listened to them for a few years - perfect summer music. And only recently, a week ago or so the first thing I learned about them was hearing about the unfortunate death of Trish Keenan in January 2011.

Robyn Hitchcock has been doing lotsa online performances - which I haven't caught. If you've never seen him - his between song banter is a performance in itself.

@2:44 Revolution Rabbit Nov63: hey thanks for reminding me - I recently read he did a show on them around her birthday. or something. I am having a Broadcast psychosis, and I am kicking myself for ignoring them all those years. AND GUESS WHY. I thought it was a stupid name - as there was a Finnish AOR band of the same name in early 80s. Don't ask me how I am this dumb. I just am.

@2:48 Revolution Rabbit Nov63: me neither - I dare not buy online tickets as there is no guarantee it'd work on my browsers/OS's. But yes, what I remember from the only gig I saw from him, the between song banter is indeed a performance in itself.
