Wilson was actually a hardline Southerner - born in VA and raised in GA - but got a pass because he had been governor of NJ and President of Princeton. And then most of the world remembered him for WWI and the League of Nations effort that brought on his stroke. Quite a tragic guy. Too bad TR lost in 1912.

More from Rosemary's Baby please :) One of my faves.
One scene is timely imo: "This is no dream, this is really happening!!"

That's just a zither - it sounds like plucking instead of hammering.

That's the one, Really Lisa, my favorite all-time soundtrack!

I was in the car for most of the OST set. Missed the Mandel moment, but man the music made my drive come alive. Give the Arranger Some!

Hot Casa, which reissued this charmer, just announced at the end of May the death of this fine fellow, Francis Mbarga. He was only 50. Here: www.facebook.com...

"For this, the first part of the Harry Palmer movie trilogy, Barry borrowed the dynamic of Anton Karas’ twanging zither from The Third Man and transposed it to cimbalom." Film Score Monthly, Nov. 2002, pp.33-34

Oh wow, Dean!!! I was right! I called it a cymbalom. I still got it!

Doug Schulkind:

Maybe 25 years ago I produced a WFMU marathon premium called Children of the Corn (which I later reissued on CD). It was all music by children. I didn't know about this Francis the Great tracks, but I wouldn't have included it anway. It would have taken up half the cassette!

Dean:

Further confirmation: "The use of the theremin in early science fiction films, John Barry's inclusion of a Hungarian cymbalom in The Ipcress File (Sidney Furie, 1965), Anton Karas's zither in The Third Man (Carol Reed, 1949), Mychael Danna's use of Native American music in his score for The Ice Storm (Ang Lee, 1997), or more recently, Cliff Martinez's much-imitated Cristal Baschet in Drive (Nicolas Winding Refn, 2011) are just some examples of refreshing additions to film music's inventory." -- Christopher Letcher, "Composing Prototypical South Africans and Re-Sounding Buried Histories: Marked and Unmarked Instruments, and Musical Hierarchies in Proteus (2003)", Music, Sound and the Moving Image, Vol. 10, Iss. 1, (Spring 2016): 53-76,103.

It's not being played like a cimbalom though. One note, no chords, no damping, no rolls... it doesn't even sound like the multi string courses a cimbalom has.

It sounds like the drummer on this track is also 7 years old (not a compliment).

Is it true that eating celery burns more energy than you get from eating the celery itself?
