Good evening, Bas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
coelacanth∅:

there are really obvious merchandise ideas that somehow haven't been implemented
...the mask is a new one of course; but the woof moo sticker from 7-8? years ago - OBVIOUS!
also the woof moo t-shirt with color options.
it's bewildering that something so obvious hasn't happened.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm

And (early) evening, Sem!

June Tabor? Really? cool

The hard part about face masks is getting the sizing right. I just bought a "large" that covers only my mouth and the very tip of my nose. Kinda useless.

David Dichelle:

Hello out there Dutchtheo, Fred, Cmurtha, Lisa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
coelacanth∅:

i have a few quadraphonic records but never thought there was much point in investing in a more complicated system that would be playing back in stereo anyway at least 95% of the time.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
Brian in UK:

I think that John Renbourne did a version of this solo.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:28pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm

and Richard Thompson did it.
it's Richard Thompson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
coelacanth∅:

there's a version by a british group c.1970 that i played on the jukebox in the pub, as it was the only version available. i'm not remembering who but a famous group. it wasn't great.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Brian in UK:

Ah the milky white skin, very popular in Roud ballads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
David Dichelle:

Coel: Richard Thompson had a very different take on the song with Fairport.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
David Dichelle:

Brian: Yes, you can tick that off your folk song bingo card.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
coelacanth∅:

(and Meg Baird's is Excellent)

David i heard what i now guess to be a demo (?) of him doing it solo, fairly similar take as Anne's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
coelacanth∅:

-or maybe it was live.
... it wasn't "farewell farewell".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm
Sem:

...and hair as black as a raven's wing seems to go along with the milky white skin. Need we say that lips as red as cherries are standard likewise?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
David Dichelle:

Okay, I don't think I've heard that demo - or at least can't recall.
Avatar 3:46pm

A tennis customer requested that I tell "the groundskeeper" to remove some leaves off the court, as if she were at a country club or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm
coelacanth∅:

David that Richard Thompson version was live and is on the "RT -life and music of..." box set, the one i will likely never be able to obtain.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm

Stanley, not to worry, the ticket machine is permanently broken so you can ride for free.

David Dichelle:

(That is actually a rule here on the trams.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
Webhamster Henry:

@DD: It may predate the archives!
in re: Quadraphonic: I have a quad Joe Cocker "8-track" (which is probably a 4 track) that I'm curious to find out what got put where.

The modern equivalent of Quad is 5.1 audio, similarly more audio than one normally would want.

@coel, they are the females who call 911 whenever they see a person of color, claiming to be threatened with violence of some kind. They've recently been cited for abuse of 911. Very expensive phone call.

Fred: I am all for following Luxembourg's lead and making all public transport free in general.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
David Dichelle:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Webhamster Henry:

@DD the local bus system has been free here in Kingston (NY), but they generally don't go anywhere I'd want to go, and the busses are spaced out by about an hour, so .. ????
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Bas NL:

I once heard a '5.1' system, where the owner had lined up the speakers nicely next to each other. It sounded very weird.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
chresti:

Henry, I make a point of catching all of Gary's shows. That's a good 'un.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
Webhamster Henry:

@coel there was going to be a streaming service that would stream "stems" so you could mix them yourself live. That is, (usually) vocals, bass, drums, and "whatever" would be isolated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
David Dichelle:

Couldn't agree more, Chresti!

Avatar 🚂 4:21pm

I have 5.1 surround. It works very well when done right, especially for movies. It's in the hands of the engineer, and fortunately I know a great one. More often it sounds kind of mushy.
Avatar 4:26pm
TDK60:

People have been advocating free transport here in NYC for a while, but the powers-that-be are not willing, yet... / I have an old quadrophonic version of Jefferson Airplane's Volunteers LP. It sounds awful in stereo, almost like a different recording.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
chresti:

I listen to all of your shows, too, David, I usually miss the first set because I'm at work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
fred:

@David: I guess we're not Luxembourg (though there is a train stop by that name in Paris). The transit authority is threatening either a 25% rate hike or a lockout. I'd love free transit, but it won't happen here: the right hates public transit anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
David Dichelle:

Thanks, Chresti, it is much appreciated!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
coelacanth∅:

i've heard 5.1 systems that sounded excellent. and i've bought some 5.1 dvds primarily for the sound quality -even played through only 2 speakers.
..my last receiver was 5.1 compatible but i had no interest in setting it up. unfortunately this $3000.00 new (i got for $145. -speaking of privilege -the former owner's) sounded like shit without the whole set-up.

Pretty busy in the office (in this odd, post-COVID sort of way), then had to run to an ophthalmologist appointment (where I'm sitting now).

i've been working on the computer a lot and my neck is in severe pain much of the time. i realised that because my near vision is excellent but my far vision is slightly fuzzy, the distance within arms' reach to the keyboard is exactly wrong for my eyes. too far for no glasses, too close for glasses.
so i end up wayyy too close.

David (@5.52) i'll ask my optimist about that but i'm sure i'll get some stupid answer!
