Miles originally wanted Hendrix in his band, then fate intervened....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm

Linda he really resented audiences wanting him to play all the "hits". he wanted to go places and wanted his fans to go with him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm

Miles wanted lots of money -UP FRONT! -before he'd work with Jimi

he imagined everything through, musically, i think, so he wanted to control those situations so to realise his vision. he would've had to relax a bit to work with Miles.
Avatar 2:46pm
Linda Lee:

yes & i'm guessing the same was true of Miles, ..
Avatar 2:48pm
Linda Lee:

actually, i feel one of the best guitarists of the early 70s was a woman fortunate enough to watch Jimi play closely.. after which she brought sounds from her guitar that *no one* was pulling out at the time. her name is June Millington; with her sister Jean they headed the first all-female band to record an album: Fanny. watching videos of her playing at the time is a revelation.
Avatar 2:49pm
Linda Lee:

she was *guided* in her craft by Jimi for sure. the fact that the label didn't know how to market the band is the reason they're not better known now.

Hello Dave and all. Is that Max Roach looking more interested in what/who's on stage that the award he's presented?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm
coelacanth∅:

Linda it seems so to me. i think others here may be more qualified to say. i don't know that much about Miles... but he did loosely plan out instrumentation -but leaving lots of room to improvise within those structures.

WR, got to see Max Roach very late in his life, but he was past being able to be the Max Roach he had always been on drums. It was kinda sad, but I was still glad to catch him (other artists I saw when they were very past their prime include Earl Fatah Hines, Sonny Stott, and Andres Segovia).
