chresti, the adapter mentioned last show means you can refill the canisters at gas centers. No idea how local any of those are to you, but they do exist.
chresti, in Brooklyn there's like a construction- and building-supply area that has places that sell all kinds of gas. Neon. Argon. Nitrogen. And CO2. You can get food/beverage grade CO2 instead of industrial grade. So not gas(oline) stations but a gas supplier. I'm afraid my knowledge is super local, though, so I'm not sure how these are expressed in L.A.
Aw, katie, so glad you're here for this. And even though I met him decades ago, I concur on his loveliness.
8:14pm
Dean:
I see "Alastair" and think "bagpipes." But apparently not here. Maybe he's only try to invoke them. Reminds me, though, of the marvelous out jazz reed player, Paul Dunmall, who also improvises on bagpipes. Brotzmann in a kilt, sorta.
You get larger canisters of Co2 at suppliers such as a local Airgas franchise. The adapter allows you to refill Sodastream canisters at home from the larger canisters you exchange at the supplier. It's about 20% of the cost of Sodastream exchanges.
Do read the comments on that Amazon link. You have to refill slowly, the Sodastream canisters have a trap designed to thwart you. Also you will refill more often. You can't put as much pressure into a canister at home as Sodastream does. But I charge a liter a day and I fizz the HELL out of my water, and a 5lb canister from Airgas lasts me a couple of months for under $15.
8:20pm
Dean:
I won't repeat the Doug Schulkind mantra about first bands in high school, but Airgas would be a great name for one.
@chresti: I don't ever talk about my personal life on the air, and I try to be somewhat discreet on this board. But I will say I'm currently recovering from a recent procedure. Thank you for asking, and for caring.
8:22pm
Dean:
There you go c/o UM, refracted through his unique experience.
all those magnificent swirling clouds and colors -- that is some pretty awesome super-power, Gaylord!
(and grateful for FINALLY being able to turn off the AC and open the windows too!)
@ RRN63 -- i was just looking! (again)
but i think too many tall buildings, urban stuff here :(
have not seen Jupiter and Saturn yet -- but the gorgeous half-Moon is hanging out, getting ready to slide into Scorpio :)

Carmichael:
Send that magic this way. Just hit 100, and three hours till sunset.
@slugluv: Neowise twixt big dipper & horizon I think.
Jupiter & Saturn past Opposition to the Sun - but should still be pretty high near midnight.
Moon into Scorpio 0:12 A.M Eastern - but that's astrological tropical - not constellations sidereal. Scorpius always easy to pick out...
Paul & Linda made RAM. Which I only came to about 3 years ago and is a fucking (mostly) incredible record. So if there were a Linda imitator there's a good chance it would be GREAT.
@ Dean - i never got the McCartney comparisons either!
"Fresh As A Daisy" got me hooked when i was a kid, to me he sounded like Emitt Rhodes and no-one else
@davefromtoronto: Ahem, ahem — "Live Peace in Toronto"?
9:05pm
Dean:
I get the comparison, and I think it turns on more than the quality of his voice, but Rhodes sure sounds to me like Frank Gorshin doing Carmen.
Kicking myself, though, for having acquired two Rhodes LPs for about a quarter each long ago--they were ubiquitous--then unloading them. Not because they're worth more on the market, but because I'd actually enjoy spinning them again now and then.
Wow what a surprise! I’ve spent the past twenty minutes looking into how “not wings” could record a song sounding so much like Wings. Wasn’t expecting to hear myself in the same program! Haha. Thanks so much for playing us!!
Evening Gaylord and all! Been away from the keyboard, but digging the show all the same.
9:34pm
ashley morey:
@joe B we were just talking about it yesterday!!! Some guy on YouTube did a “top 5 pizza places” in jersey city and it was just a disgrace. 4 out of 5 were on pedestrian plaza
@joe B, Helen’s, and worse, the Grove Street bistro place which they didn’t know the name of so were just calling “Pizza” since that’s what the awning said. They called the slice “pretty good”
@Gaylord: Of course I just had to look up Bert Berns. Innnteresting! I will study some more.
Also, Mink’s guitar player is my neighbor on my community radio station’s schedule. I should ask him about the Bert Berns thing. He always has good stories.
The family-owned pizza joint near me has not opened up yet. Meanwhile, the Domino's right near them is delivering pies right and left. Domino's, man! 2020 has me shaking my head.
I live in Northern Michigan where the pizza is almost universally at the standard of the crappiest, most cynical places you would find in NYC/NJ. Not letting my 11 mo old son have his first pizza experience, until we can visit again
