Back in the day when the only studio effect was slowing or speeding up the tape, and flanging.

Does anyone make Break-In records anymore? In the same style as Dickie Goodman, like with contemporary hit songs? Is it even possible?
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - good question! The last ones I remember we're late 70s/ early 80s?
Avatar 7:20pm
spacebrother:

@ Rich - I guess anything smaller than 3 feet was chipmunk voice.
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 7:21pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Also ... Where did the "green men" thing come from?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm
Rich in Washington:

That moment when I learned that the audio effect Flanging took its name from an actual studio technique where an engineer would apply pressure to the flange of a tape reel to slow it down on one reel of two in-sync reels.

Avatar 7:33pm

Lots of Sky Men and Sky Women and Sky People and Sky Cats agree that this album is out of this world.
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 7:34pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

So, the Pentagon said a couple of days ago that they had an announcement, but I can't find anything.
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Were they announcing that they were going to make an announcement about announcing something? Was that the general gist? ;-)
Avatar 7:37pm
spacebrother:

They were announcing that they had pieces of crashed UFOs. Or so they say.
Avatar 7:37pm
spacebrother:

It's very complicated.
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 7:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Also (I have a lot of questions today!) do we talk about Martians because Mars is the most habitable out of the planets aside from ours? Is it more feasible that someone/thing would be living there?
Avatar 7:39pm
spacebrother:

@ GG - Not likely. Maybe billions of years ago when there was water.
Avatar 7:39pm
spacebrother:

Molllie Thompson makes me cry.
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Greg - this is one of those subjects that I don't know a lot about, so find fascinating :-) The origins of things like Martians for example. Why not Venusians (which is fun to say)? :-)
Avatar 7:42pm
Mr Fab:

GG: Maybe cuz HG Well's "War of the Worlds" featured an invasion of Martians, as he called them, and that created the sci-fi alien template that continues today?
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - aha! That makes sense!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
Rich in Washington:

It's fun to read about people like George Adamski, Daniel Fry, Orfeo whatsisname, etc. All these people claimed that they met people from nearly every planet in our solar system and even took trips there themselves.
Avatar 7:43pm
Otis Fodder:

Bosstones... so that must have been where Sesame Street's Roosevelt Franklin record got Mobity Mosely's Months from. Wowie Zowie!
Avatar 7:43pm
spacebrother:

Mars was looked at as a place where there would be aliens because 1) It was close and 2) The discovery of what astromomers thought were "canals" on the planet.
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I just Googled "most habitable planet after Earth" and it gave me Titan, which is unfortunate for naming the inhabitants!
Avatar 7:43pm
spacebrother:

in the 19th century. But it was just bad optics on the telescopes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
Rich in Washington:

But we all know that the only other habitable planet is Saturn, where Sun Ra and the Arkestra come from.
Avatar 7:45pm
spacebrother:

@ Rich - YES.
Avatar 7:45pm
BC Sterrett:

This is weird but my dad found a pencil portrait of someone in prison or something, it doesn't have a signature but think I just found the man in the picture. I'm meeting him at a Wal-Mart parking lot to give it to him. If I don't show up on the radio tomorrow, this is the last thing I did. lol
Avatar 7:45pm
Mr Fab:

Rich: the Rick Dees radio show used to do Dickie Goodman-style break-in routines, at least in the '90s.
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 7:45pm

@BC - that is WILD!!!!!
Avatar 7:46pm
BC Sterrett:

BC, we need to set you up with a 3rd show. BC's Story Hour!
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 7:51pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I watched this programme once about people who'd experienced weird things. One guy was shot in a freak accident (he was fine) but the bullet's serial number was birthday and the company name was his surname.
And this other guy's car broke down in the middle of nowhere so he walked to find a telephone booth. As he approached it the phone was ringing so he picked it up, and it was his office. And the number of the telephone booth was his employee number.
I love shows like that :-)
