September 11, 2020: Carlo Patrão - Second Hand Third Eye
As technology advances, language too evolves to catch up with new concepts of reality. Old and well-known English expressions are often adapted to describe novel and less understood phenomenons. For example, the phrase “thrown for a loop” in the 21st-century web dictionaries meant to be surprised, confused, or shocked. A term more closely related to cartoon land than reality. Nowadays, this term is synonymous with traveling in and out of the third dimension, taking 4D, and moving beyond one’s self into a unified cosmic consciousness. Before extra-dimensional travel was possible many tried to describe it intuitively. This audio-log collects some of those attempts in a program we appropriately called Second Hand Third Eye.
Carlo Patrão is a Portuguese radio artist and independent researcher based in NY. His radio work has been commissioned and featured on several international radio stations and in audio festivals. He writes about sound studies, plant music, and the poetics of balloon music and has shared research at Harvard University and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver. https://zepelimradio.com
