Found this though: The Crandall Typewriter was patented in 1881 and manufactured by the Crandall Machine Company of Groton, New York. The Crandall used a type sleeve, as opposed to typebars, inked by a ribbon. It also used a non standard two-row keyboard. It has been called "the first American visible and practically useful typewriter."

I've used an AZERTY. That was devilish. I eventually learned to "misspell" certain words, and it all worked out.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:27pm

I didn't even know there were "modern" alternatives to QWERTY that have caught on.

listener james from westwood:

Hell, I go mono on the WFMU app when blasting it from my phone speaker while showering.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm
steveo:

dvorak seems to be the most popular; designed to have common keys on home row and to alternate hands for most words (as opposed to qwerty which was allegedly designed to slow you down so the hammers wouldn't collide and jam)

neither do i, david, but it gets great reception

david, you say you were blocked from buying Open Reel Ensemble recording. What do you mean blocked? According to their web site they have two CD and one DVD. Each released by different publisher. On of which is Sakamoto Ryuichi's common label. (Scroll down for the English)

The french Apple keyboard is hell for coding. Many extremely common characters require pressing 3 keys. Then again, I already hated Apple before having to use the thing, so I'm biased

My sympathies, fred. I'm not a coder but I did have to write scripts for MAX/MSP on a German keyboard some years ago. Clumsy.

Which store? Most of their releases appear to be on Amazon JP, which I've bought from a few times, but I guess they could decline a product to be sent to USA.
