Keilidh:

Here's a lovely death related poem to compliment this relentless evening!

Because I Could Not Stop For Death
by Emily Dickinson

Because I could not stop for Death
He kindly stopped for me
The Carriage held but just Ourselves
And Immortality.

We slowly drove
He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility

We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess – in the Ring
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain
We passed the Setting Sun

Or rather – He passed us
The Dews drew quivering and chill
For only Gossamer, my Gown
My Tippet – only Tulle

We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground
The Roof was scarcely visible
The Cornice – in the Ground

Since then – 'tis Centuries and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses' Heads
Were toward Eternity

Mother Night is one of my favorites of Vonnegut's. There was a not-so-bad film adaptation with Nick Nolte in the late 90s.

Handy: Sam Neill will always be the face of the Antichrist to me, first time I saw him was in Omen III as the grownup Damien. That dude has some devil eyes!

Sometimes, actually never until this morning, I wonder if Blake Harrison participates in PxDx rehearsals, or he's just the dude that shows up with cases beer at the compound and says "Yeah!" and bangs his head whenever Hull comes up with a heavy riff for a new song.

Let Me Die A Youngman's Death - Roger McGough

Let me die a youngman's death
not a clean and inbetween
the sheets holywater death
not a famous-last-words
peaceful out of breath death

When I'm 73
and in constant good tumour
may I be mown down at dawn
by a bright red sports car
on my way home
from an allnight party

Or when I'm 91
with silver hair
and sitting in a barber's chair
may rival gangsters
with hamfisted tommyguns burst in
and give me a short back and insides

Or when I'm 104
and banned from the Cavern
may my mistress
catching me in bed with her daughter
and fearing for her son
cut me up into little pieces
and throw away every piece but one

Let me die a youngman's death
not a free from sin tiptoe in
candle wax and waning death
not a curtains drawn by angels borne
'what a nice way to go' death

Same here, slugluv. Just found out about it recently from an article, really curious about it.

It's true about the owl being in love with my mom. He'd hang out by her bathroom window and hoot at her whenever she was putting on her face in the morning. He even got into the house once (I think to press his suit), but ended up embarrassing himself by flying into a window and conking himself out. I have a pic somewhere of him on his back with his feet up. He was fine after a while.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am
mariano:

Thing about Topsy Turvy is that he really took his incisive socialist eye to the era and ended up making maybe the best-observed Victorian-set film. He has a real eye for social nuance. With Peterloo, I think that because he was so enthusiastic about the subject (the Peterloo Massacre was basically the beginning of the Labour movement) he tried to cram everything in there and it wound up feeling like a series of disjointed vignettes.
