ami when i first moved here it was specifically to live in a tent in the woods
(just until winter came...18 years ago)
Avatar 8:19pm
Bethany Ryker:

Tent in the woods is the way to go wherever and whenever you can!

Peter from Dover NJ:

Cool program tonight Bethany.

@ coelacanth∅:Hehe, woke up to rain in the tent this morning, wanted to see the stars at night,so didn't have the cover on. Sweet country sky.

Bethany i often miss living that way, but now i've accumulated lots of crap -for projects that require crap, and electricity

Hi, Bethany. Sorry to report that Randall Craig Fleischer, conductor of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, died last week at age 61.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
coelacanth∅:

ami right; it cleared up pretty fast though -at least here
  8:24pm

@ coelacanth∅:Yea,it was nice. Even managed to get the fire back on in the morning. Good times.

Wondering if this piece caused a furor when it was first played, back in the day.

Just outside Woodstock,Kenneth L Wilson Campground.

@Ken From Hyde Park, I'm sad to hear that news from the Hudson Valley! It sounds like an untimely death of maestro Fleischer...he must have touched many lives having conducted not only the HVP, but also Youngstown, Anchorage and often San Francisco. Bravo, maestro -

Peter from Dover NJ:

@ coelacanth and ami ad. 2 weeks ago I was in the Adirondacks. So many more stars in the night sky than at home.

I think I saw a satellite in the night sky.

Devon"s show had me thinking of the game :
What would Music sound like without ?
- in that case Stravinsky.
So - pretty good follow-up here!
  8:40pm
Peter from Dover NJ:

Bethany, I'm flattered that you mentioned my comment on air. As a reference, from what I've read, the premiere of Mussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition caused all sorts of uproar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
coelacanth∅:

ami i know where it is but never been there.
the sky is pretty clear where i am now, in general, but too much light right next door.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
coelacanth∅:

Peter i've lived in various parts of northern nj and yes, big difference to up here - even in the woods of jersey.
  8:45pm
ami ad:

@ coelacanth∅: It's nice there. Everywhere upstate is darker than Brooklyn,to my eyes. But honestly, just having a fire going on at nights and mornings was good enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
coelacanth∅:

i took a lot of recordings in the woods. thrushes, owls, etc
and trucks on the mountain 2 miles away. it's so quiet i could easily make out every gear change

WR:

coelacanth∅, is that literal corn? Isn't it a bit early in the season?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
coelacanth∅:

haha WR i just thought my comment was corny!
...but there's been fresh corn here for at least a month now

When I was just out of high school I spent 8 weeks in Estes Park, CO playing at the Rocky Ridge Music Center (let's call it "music camp"). I've never seen so many stars. Yeah, the sky is darker, but I always thought that being 9000ft CLOSER made a difference, too. Please theorize if you are of the means!

Being at altitude is important for telescopes. Basically the thinner air helps to reduce image blur. Thats why they build observatories on mountains. I don't think its enough to help the human eye. The darkness (lace of light pollution) definitely helps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm
coelacanth∅:

i have very fond memories of rocky mountain park and estes
- and i think it would make a difference, at least because it's above so much of the light pollution
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm

^^ lack not lace.
